Was wondering if anyone else has a lab that can jump really high? My Jack plays with my husband every evening and they play "how high can you jump" games. This is a great energy release for him and they love the time together. But a while back we were outside with my pick-up truck and Jack jumped into the bed of the truck...but the tail gate was UP! It scared me at first because I didn't think he would make it that high and into the bed, but he did. Does anyone else have a lab that junps like this? I'm worried he'll get hurt if I allow him to do stunts like this. Just wondering. Thanks,
Jenn

Hi you dont say how old Jack is, if he is under 12 months then he should definitely not be jumping high, even if they wants to, due to the fact that they could damage there hips as they wont be fully grown yet. In fact i've read somewhere that labs should not be encourage to jump until they are over two.
I think that its something that Labs want to do as my 10 month old lab wants to jump and its hard work stopping him, but I keep thinking about his hips and what the consequences would be if he hurt himself.
Sorry, if ive spoilt your game and its obviously one that you all enjoy.
Hopefully he is old enough that you can continue playing.

I don`t think its a good idea to let him jump into the back of a pick up, specially if the tailgate is up!!, he could mis judge it and hurt himself badly.
Also I hope you don`t let him travel in the back of an open pick up without being secured in some way, ie: a crate, so there no chance of him jumping out, preferably of course he should`nt be there at all .
I saw a prog on Animal Planet about a dog in the US that jumped out while the vehicle was moving, he got under the wheels and had his tail degloved (scalped basically), the vets had to amputate his tail , he was very lucky really though, could so easily have been killed
I would`nt allow him to make jumps you consider might hurt him, won`t be easy but like everything he`ll learn what you want and don`t want him to do
