Hi, me and my wife are planning a week away next year with our lab Trigger. We have seen two lovely places....1 near Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth (Cornwall) and the other in the village of Westward Ho! (North Devon).....we are really struggling to decide between the 2 as the both look ideal. Does any1 have any personal experience of either the beaches at Watergate Bay or Westward Ho!.....are there any dog restrictions on the beaches? Any advice/info on either places would be greatly appreciated and will HOPEFULLY help us to decide which place we prefer???? Thanks

We stayed at a caravan site at Watergate Bay, 4 years ago and have also visted Westward Ho! Both are fantastic beaches with no restrictions Very Happy

I couldnt choose which one as I love both North Devon and Cornwall.

If you want the biggest beach ever you need Saunton Sands in North Devon ....OMG!!!

Not been to either of those places but I agree with Fay, Saunton Sands is lovely!
My brother lives near there and I dog/house sat for him last summer and I used to take Milo and Honey(bro's dog) on that beach most days. There is a little bit of restriction only that you have to go away from the entrance to the beach but that's not a problem as the beach IS big!!The only thing that annoyed me was the cost of parking! £6 a day which is fine if you plan on being on the beach all day,but if you only want an hour or so it was starting to become expensive as it was a set fee!
Other beaches I visited with the dogs were:-
Putsburgh(?)
Woolacombe
Croyde
Again you have to pay for the car park!
Hope this has been helpful.Good luck in planning your hols!! Wink

Are you in your own caravan or looking for accommodation as well?

There are a couple of cottages we like the look of.

We are looking to go around the middle of May which is when dog restrictions on breaches usually start so just wanted to check beforehand whether there were any kind of restrictions in place!!
