So Tiber's blood test for his passport have come back all good so we can now start booking our holiday Very Happy

My plan is to spend some time in the north of France/Belgium, then go to Munich/Salzburg area and do some low level walks in the Alps before spending some time with my In-Laws in Vienna. We're going to take 2.5-3 weeks to do all this.

I've done some investigating and I've discovered there's an over night sleeper car train that allows dogs on. It does a variety of routes but I was looking at the one that goes from Dusseldorf to Munich. I've found one website that says that it has stops that are long enough for a doggy-comfort break but I was wondering if anyone had any experience of using this or knew of anyone who has used this service with (or without) a dog so taht I can confirm this. I think the train journey is just a bit on the long side to expect Tiber to go without having a comfort break (departure 9.55pm arrive 6.30am the next day)

Any tips and hints and stories are welcome!

Thanks

How exciting Very Happy

I don't have any experience but have made a note as a europe trip with dogs is firmly on my 'one day' list.

I would say though that 9.55pm - 6.30am is totally doable for mine with no toilet breaks tbh. I'd just toilet him before and settle him down in a bed and let him sleep as normal right through.
Then if the guard does indicate you've got a reasnoable gap a middle of the night toilet trip is a bonus.

Just seen Tiber is under a year - when do you plan to go? you might feel more confident in his ability to hold all night when he is a little older, so it may not be an issue?

edited to add: find an online timetable and then you will see the arrival and departure times at the stops and be able to see the 'breaks' for yourself timewise?

Not experienced the train you describe but would trust that the Germans know what they're doing as dogs were so welcomed when we were driving around there with Luna a 4month pup needing wee breaks all night whilst we were in hotels!!!

You could try giving someone a phonecall with your query - they all seem to speak English and have better customer care attitude than UK services
Wink

Have fun!
