I'm still concerned that Marios allergies only started when we swapped to Burns. I know others are swapping and trying new foods in similar situations.

Can anyone going through this (Carroll and Claire in particular) tell me:

a) Did your labs suffer any reactions to Burns?

b) What are you feeding them now and has it helped?

I'm so reluctant to take Mario off Burns but I feel I need to at least take this out of the equation. My vet claims never to have heard of Burns but Burns themselves have been great.

Anyone's experiences on Burns/allergies would be great.

Thanks again.

Which flavour of Burns are you using?
They have even heard of it in deepest SW France so I find it very hard to believeeyour vet hasn't heard of it. Shocked

Hi, lucy, many vets have no need to research feeds or indeed none are trained nutritionalists. Its not surprising many do not know of feeds. my one vet had never heard of naturediet or burns, the other sell burns and recommends naturediet for difficult cases.

I would try an alternative burns feed, your problem may well be as dylans was, an intollerance to a specific ingredient. give burns a call, and they may even send you some to try. lamb and rice burns is what we have now settled on with dylan.

Exactly - It did worry me too but then as someone else said at the time - vets don't always keep up with everything as much as we'd like them to. Mario is on Burns chicken and rice. Before that he was on Beta puppy chicken and rice.

Why not try one of the other flavours then as Andrew suggests? Mine love the fish flavour and Milly who is a not a dryfood eater by preference (she is a delicate flower) loves it!

I will try an alternative flavour - the trouble is, you get caught up in this big allergy bubble and you're reluctant to make it any worse by changing anything. Also, Mario had been on chicken & rice since a baby but since researching, I've learnt they can suddenly develop these allergies (typically 1-3 years) so Marios a bit younger than most at 10 months.

Will certainly try and change of flavour - thanks guys.

Hi Lucy,

I don't know what allergys that Mario is suffering from but i am having similar problems with Kobi. Our main concern is his dandruff and eating his own no.2's.Having spoke to Burns helpline they have suggested changing from Chicken ans Rice to anither flavour as some dogs have an intolerance to certain flavours. They also have recommended supplementing his dinner with rice or potatoes as they feel that he may be underfed with his amount just now(200g for a 20.8kg dog 7 months) hence the eating no.2's.
Give them a call if you are unsure as it is a free phone number and they are very helpfull.

Cheers
Stevie

Hi
Through reading a lot of posts we have changed Majic from Burns chicken & rice to lamb & rice to see if that has a positive effect on Majic, so it may be worth trying a different flavour. Can't give any feedback on the change yet as she has only just started and she is on meds to combat her probs so they may be masking true results. Sorry not much help.

Thanks Carroll - it is a worry isn't it. Do you know if Claire went through with biopsy today? Great news if her problem is resolved.

Thanks everyone else - I have already spoken to Burns and they infact sent me a 15kg bag FOC after hearing my problems.

We can only keep trying things but I'm going to get tuffer with my vets tonight as I don't want to keep giving Mario medicine unless I have to.

Good luck one and all.
