Hi, I've been reading the Lab Forum for a while now but have only just figured out how to join - wow! Am I ever proud of myself!!
I'm not sure if I have cheated a bit as my pup is a 4 month old Lab/Goldie cross. I puppy social;ise for Dogs for the Disabled and Echo is my 4th puppy I've socialised - the other 3 were a goldie, a lab/goldie cross and a black lab. I've also got a Jack Russell Terrier and a min lon-haired Daschund of my own, and my partner, Dave who is disabled has a Goldie assistance dog (that's how we met - I puppy socialised his dog and when they were partnered together, we met and fell in 'lurv'!!!!)
The dogs are my passion and, though it breaks my heart each time I have to part with one of 'my' pups, the pleasure I gain from starting them off on the first leg of their journey out-weighs the tears at saying goodbye (just!).
Every pup teaches me something new, so I particularly enjoy reading the puppy forums.
Echo is brilliant - I have found that, like my last Lab/Goldie cross, she is very easy to teach and a pleasure to have around, which is partley why Dogs for the Disabled use a lot of first cross Lab/Goldies. Temperment-wise and training-wise they seem to be less 'high maintainance' than pure lads or goldies, but then every dog is different (and I love them all!)
I'm looking forward to Christmas as my last Lab, who is currently in training) is comming home to his 'Mum' for the holidays! We'll be a 5-dog household again - can't wait!
Looking forward to talking to you! Becs and the Gang!

Hi Becs, welcome to all of you What a wonderful job you do, have to say I`m not sure I could have a pup for 6 months and then give it up, but as you say knowing your helping people who need is a reward in itself
Hope you`ll be able to post pics of Echo, if you need help with it just ask, and someone will do their best to walk you through it

Hi, Its hard to say goodbye to the pups, but the way I try to think about it is that I give the pup back, but I keep the first year, and no-one can take that bit back! I just feel very lucky to have known these wondeful pups and to have shared a year of their life. I'm going to ask Dave to help me attach a photo of Echo -hope it works otherwise I'll be looking for some advice!....... No can't figure it out! Help please to insert o photo!!
