Every month, we have many members who email us to tell us all about their special furry friends, and just how much they mean to them. For whatever reason, if you would like to nominate your lab for this award, please email your story, and a photo of your lab to Julie@labradorforums.co.uk . This month, we would like to nominate Scooby, to win the ‘Lab of the Month' award for the month of May.

Here, his owner Jennie, tells us her story:

Jennie Writes:

I'd like to nominate my lab, Scooby for Lab Of The Month. Scooby was born on a puppy farm but due to the poor conditions he was kept in, on a wet slippy floor, his front legs splayed at a couple of months old and he had to walk on his back legs and his chest.

Uninterested in 'damaged goods' the breeders left him to fend for himself in this condition and as a result he struggled to get a fair share of food at feeding times and became mal-nutritioned. Luckily at this point a lovely lady from a local rescue came and took him from the puppy farm, as she often does with their so called 'rejects', and with a lot of time, love, patience and the help of a good vet nursed him back to health.

When my partner and I decided to look for a new dog we decided to get one from a rescue, give an unwanted dog a home, I had my heart set on a young Labrador x bitch puppy, but when the rescue told me about this little chap and what he'd been through I knew that he had to come and live with us, so we traveled to the rescue to meet him and of course ended up coming home with a lovely little 18 week old Chocolate Labrador dog. Due to his bad start in life and the subsequent time spent recovering he was a bit behind on his training, he's never worn a collar or been on a lead, was on his way to being toilet trained and didn't even have a name that he knew. He was just finishing his course of anti-biotics when we took him home, and after the two hour car journey back to where we live he just looked completely bewildered!

In what seemed like no time at all he learnt his new name, was fully toilet trained, followed basic commands such as sit etc and walked perfectly (well as perfect as a Lab puppy ever gets!) on his lead. Every day he amazes us with what an intelligent, loving dog he is, he adores people and other dogs and has such a friendly, bubbly nature, so keen to please - even by Labrador 's high standards.

After such a bad start in life, he is a remarkable little dog and it s me to think that all the puppy farm needed to do was to pick the little guy up and put him back on his feet, instead of leaving him to suffer. One good thing that's come from this is that their loss is our gain, Scooby has brightened up our lives, and his cheeky, bouncy nature brings a smile to the faces of everyone he meets - he really is one in a million!!

Jennie

What a lucky boy Scooby is - I'm glad his bad start in life is now totally behind him and he's found a loving home.

Awwww makes me soooooo Evil or Very Mad , people just breeding for the money with no thought to the welfare of the animals.

Well done to the rescue people that saved him from that and to you Jennie for giving him his forever home Very Happy , his pic certainly doesn`t show any signs of his bad start, he looks a typically happy Lab Very Happy .

Hope he enjoys his toys, I know CJ did, well until he and Cindy finally managed to pull its stitches Very Happy
