Darcey put on a few pounds over Christmas (like most of us Rolling Eyes) and so she is on a diet.

I think a bit of weight has come off but I have to be really careful what I say to her. The trouble is I want to keep telling her that she is looking thinner, but with her hearing she selectively thinks I am saying dinner!! So I have to be really careful or she thinks I am offering her more food and she starts running around like a mad thing. Very Happy

Had the same problem with my old basset. Once offered my husband a kit-kat and nearly got flattened in the rush for him to get out the back door looking for a cat.

Have you had any funny experiences like that?

Not quite as dramatic as your reactions, but I do always have to spell out, instead of say, the words:

Walk(ies)
Ball
Dinner
Woods
Bone
School
Dunce
Bran

or else I have a very excited boy on my hands Smile

I wonder if dogs will ever get smart enough to work out the spelling? Laughing

We cant say "would you like......?" to anyone or else Cooper heads straight for the freezer (well actually he has been hedging his bets of late, and sitting equal distance from freezer and fridge!)

they are definitely smarter than the average bear

we can't say "where's", as in where's mum?,

jazz is up on the couch with her head through the blinds looking out the window, if no one is there she then looks quite depressed.

What's this? is guaranteed to get Digs to look expectantly.

thankfully he doesn't seem to have picked up on the words walk/dinner etc I can ask him for ages if he wants his dinner and he doesn't react any differently to when I speak to him normally!

He is however picking up on the words Maya and Nessie (two of his favourite doggy pals!)

That made me laugh so much. They are such manipulators. Laughing They just have to give you that "but you said" look and we cave in.
