Thanks Emma, yes the time is going quickly. How is Tiana getting along?
Cookie is still doing really well. He is in and out of the garden through the day and we only have a couple of tinkles indoors which is very good. Half the time he wants to go in the garden to eat sticks, leaves, stones etc I started off trying to get them off in but gave up and leave him to it! After the first 3 nights of sleeping on the sofa in the next room we made the decision to go up to bed, the first night he slept through till 4am, a quick toilet trip and back in his crate and he only barked for 4 mins then want back to sleep till 7am. Last night he yapped at 2am, toilet trip back in, another 4 mins of barking before quiet, then yapping again at 5am for another toilet trip. This time only 2 mins of barking and alseep till 7.10, so we are very pleased with him. He is very good at being left while we go out, 9 times out of 10 he is still asleep when we return. He has taken a liking to the fleecy sheepskin blanket he has in his crate so that helps him settle, and he still has my old tshirt in with him too. He went for his first vet check up yesterday and she was very pleased with him, just got some ear drops as he has some mites in his ears. Back next week for second vaccinations and microchipping. He's very good in the car, he is harnessed in the front seat and cries and fidgets a bit at first but then goes to sleep. The only problem we are having is with our son who is 7, he adores Cookie but is a very lively boy who doesn't often sit still which is of course attractive to Cookie who likes to nip! We have had a couple of instances where he has been nipped and resulted in tears, he is also feeling a little bit left out as obviously we have to deal with Cookie first when we come in/get up in the morning. But we've talked about it and he understands, so we're going to make a bit more effort to have some special time with him this weekend. We've also explained that Cookie wont be this nippy forever and we have to teach him how to behave. So fingers crossed that it will improve soon. Anyway sorry to ramble in, will post some more photos over the weekend.
Sounds like he is doing great and very similar to Tiana, it's a good job labs like the cold weather otherwise toilet training would be a nightmare at this time of year! I had to laugh about the leaves/sticks - that's exactly what Tiana does in the garden as well as the additional snow she can eat! She has also already found her favourite digging spot in the soil
As for nightime, she is doing well. Up once or twice in the night but she is in a crate in our bedroom for now so it is difficult to get her to go back to sleep sometimes We haven't had to leave her alone yet as I took the week off work, though we leave her in a crate when showering etc and for the first time today she didn't cry I'm dreading going back to work
I don't have children but I'm a nanny so I look after 3 girls who love dogs (luckily) and are coming to stay next week to see Tiana as it's half term. They are used to puppy behaviour because of Belle and Tiana is much better than her at not nipping so they should be ok but her claws are really sharp atm as she's not out and about to 'file' them so I hope we don't have too many scratches I know it must be hard with your son but children are very adaptable and I'm sure he understands at his age that it is only temporary. In the meantime I hope you don't have too many more incidents

Sounds like Cookie is a little star. Our 5 year old son was desperate to get a dog, and when we Dexter joined us loved playing with him but couldn't understand why he playfully bit him. Had read on LF about crossing your arms and walking away, so that's what we got our son to do. We had a few tears, and with the folding arms and tears Dexter seemed to work out that he couldn't mouth our son as much as he did us!
Dexter is 16 weeks old now, and he and my son are now partners in crime who get up to way too much mischief together. The first weeks are hard work and it took our son a good couple of weeks to get used to how to respond to the nipping. Hard work but well worth it.
