Coco is now having the Zitac twice daily. There's no doubt she's not suffering discomfort like before so it is doing some good. She now has brekkie, lunch and dinner rather than just brekkie and dinner. Still normal pees, poohs, no weight loss and no problem with appetite.

She's fine all day until the evening. This evening she went out and peed and poohed then ate grass and was sick. As soon as we went out she wanted to play with her ball on a rope. It wasn't on as it was dark and blizzarding.

The problem is its becoming like having a baby in the house. She's waking for a drink, then several times gets up and making a fuss. Now she's been sick several times in the night, once all over the bed so we are naturally wary and tend on the side of caution and let her out. Now I'm getting exhausted with the disturbed nights. Last night I went out with her at 3am in a blizzard with a torch to see exactly what was what. She won't be sick on the lead so I haven't put her on one but the problem is there's not a small area to follow her but 4 acres!! That's not funny at 3am!

Do I ignore her and hope she won't throw up, or continue to let her out knowing that date could well be swinging the lead? If she is being sick I need to know so I can feed back to the vet if necessary.

I'm exhausted. HELP!

I know this doesn't really solve the problem but could you put up some sort of temporary barrier fence like those Georgina and Laura use when they go camping to section a small area just behind the door so if you are taking her out at night at least she can't go far,I presume it wouldn't need to be sturdy as she probably wouldn't be in the mood for jumping if she was feeling poorly?

Can you get antiemetics for dogs? I know you can for humans, perhaps ask the Vet?

I don't know what Zitac is but wonder if you're only giving that in the day and so perhaps it doesn't last overnight would the Vet provide an extra dose for her to have, even if you have to get up halfway through the night to administer it might be easier on you to have a routine of doing that than be woken randomly which seems to be much harder to cope with?

Sorry to hear that you are still having problems with Coco Sad

I can't offer any advice about her behaviour or sickness, but would putting a long training line give her enough slack to do what she needs to? At least you can then reel her in when she's done rather than following her around.

Thanks guys. The Zitac is a drug that affects the production of acid which is the major cause of the vomiting and sickness. Its in tablet form, one morning and one evening.

We've been experimenting with medication since last October (under vet supervision of course) starting with antiemetIcs only. Once they stopped it was back to being sick. Then we had antiemetics and the Zitac which continued 7 days after the antiemetics stopped and she was much better. Then she became sicky again so she had an ultrasound and nothing nasty was found but lots of excess acid so we continue with the Zitac. It's pretty effective but jolly expensive.

Last night was the first night for ages that she only got up once for a drink then settled down again.

How confusing for you but I hope that last night was a sign of things to come and that she's going to start feeling better again and only need a drink in the night, nothing else. Sorry I can't be more help.

No wonder you are tired! I am sorry, I have no suggestions other than a bonio at bedtime to see if that helps, and personally I would confine her to an area in the house where she can't be sick on furnishings, bed etc.

I don't think I could face being woke with a dog being sick on my bed Sad

Thanks all. Natalie is Sam a member here? I wouldn't want to email out of the blue.

Jac, she's not been sick indoors for about 4 weeks now. When she is sick it's mostly yellow bile anyway.

We know now she feels nauseous and then goes outside, eats grass and makes herself sick. She's rarely sick without the initial need to make herself sick. That's why she's waking us up, not to be sick but feeling nauseous with the need to make herself sick. We've been trying to alleviate the sicky feeling by feeding more frequently. Apart from the nausea she's 100% normal, well for her age. Plays, eats, drinks, sleeps, pees and poohs as normal.
