I've had a few problems with them over the years, maybe it's me After the last altercation with a new vet, I've decided to try one specifically off the RCVS Accredited list, not sure if it will make any difference, they also happen to be closer than the other vets in distance, although the time taken to get there may be a little longer as I have to travel to the other side of town, but I just wondered if others had experience of RCVS vets, and had they found them any different?
My vet is absolutely brilliant and is RCVS Accredited (which I actually didn't know until I just checked) Lottie has never been anywhere else so I can only compare with my previous vet when I had my Border Collie. They were good but not fantastic. My friend uses them and the vet she's seen with Lottie's half sister Ellie told her OCD is a 'fashionable diagnosis' for limping labradors and doesn't believe it actually exists (My Lottie has it) I would never take Lottie to them and am so glad I've moved house.
Hope you're happy with the one you decide to go with.
I can't say enough good things about Nick,my vet, and all his staff are brilliant too.
The vets I go to are RCVS Accredited. I've never been anywhere else with my animals, so I've nothing to compare to. I'm more than happy with the vets and the service I've received so far though.
The practise has been running for years and passed down, father to son (I remember when the son first qualified, I've been there that long ). They have other new vets come and go (usually NZs or Aussies) but they only seem to pick the best ones to work there, as I've never had any bother with any of them and if they are uncertain about anything, they run off to consult the boss, who is nearly always around to help.
Hopefully, this new vet of yours will be just as good.
Our vets are RCVS Accredited too and I'm very happy with them I have had a few negative experiences over the years (13 years+) with particular vets at the practice - nothing awful by any means, more their "manner" than anything - and just decided not to see them again. Don't think they are based at our one anymore anyway.
We have an amazing vet who I try to see whenever possible and there are also a couple of others we have seen who are very nice too and I'd be happy to see if needed. I also find the receptionists really lovely and generally the vet nurses too. The vets accept all my questions and are happy to discuss everything thoroughly with me, knowing that I won't necessarily share their view on things, will refer me to our holistic vet when I ask without trying to cause any problem, and are accommodating too
The practice we attend is an accredited practice and we've always been really happy with them. They are a quite big practice with a range of specialists which you can select specifically to see based on your own estimation of what might be wrong with the dog... for example we are going to see the Orthopaedic chap on Tuesday with Pasco as we have some concerns re his previous elbow surgery. There are a couple of good diagnosticians and I would chose them if we had a vague issue that we were unsure of. Straightfoward things like stitches or surgery or dental issues the likes I'd probably plump for the senior partner - he has huge massive rugby player hands, but I've always found he has a great way with getting these things done!
If I've ever presented them with alternatives to the norm - changes to vaccination schedules not the norm, delaying neutering, challenging a treatment plan, I've always felt that they have listened and taken on board any info I share or made the effort to make me understand why its important to do things a different way. I've never felt press ganged into doing it their way etc. Like I say, basically, they are all around good guys.

Thanks for the responses, I'm registered with three vets local to me now; one wanted to charge me nearly double for an emergency appointment to cauterise Tau's dew claw last year, not for an out of hours appointment, just to squeeze me in inbetween other appointments on a Saturday morning, wouldn't have been that bad except the only surgery they had open was about a 40 mile round trip; the other, well, the guy is a bit odd, and I would have come to blows with him if the conversation hadn't been over the phone when I received an unasked for lecture about premate testing; let's hope vets number three (registered over the phone yesterday) are a little more open minded to people actually knowing a little bit about their dogs.
