Hi all, I spent the weekend preparing and shopping for last bits so I think we are ready for the arrival of Tiana. Only one thing left...insurance.
I have read some of the previous threads on insurance but just wondered if anyone had any more recent experience with renewals etc.
We were previously with M&S for Belle and couldn't fault them. We claimed at least £2000, they were great on the phone, speedy with paying out no quibbles so would like to stick with what we know. However I'm a bit put off by the renewal costs everyone seems to complain about Although we didn't have to renew Belle's insurance, her renewal came through and it was only slightly higher than year one despite all the claims. I don't know how insurance companies work but maybe because she had a terminal illness they knew they wouldn't have to cover for long I wonder if it had been an expensive yet treatable condition such as HD then it may have been higher??
I also like the sound of John Lewis but has anyone had a renewal quote recently?
And any opinions on pet plan? I know vets reccommend them, they have life cover etc and do they offer multi pet discount?
At the moment I'm thinking I will stick with M&S as even if they hike their prices at least I will be paying for good service and so on, seems worth it. But certainly open to other opinions so I make the right decision!

I have just taken out John Lewis Ins, so can't help you regards what to expect with renewal, I did post on here to try and find out but no positive feed back.
I am with Help u Cover with another dog, had it for 3 years and large claim first year, the renewal was only couple of pounds each year since start, so can't complain about them, just could'nt get reasonable quote when trying for latest dog, they paid up promptly for all claims.
I have recently had to put in claims with M & S for both of my two and I can't fault the speed with which I received the money back. I also claimed back beyond the 30 days and they didn't quibble at all.
However I have no experience of renewal after claiming with them so come September we will really see what they are like
Am in a similar position and have decided to use Petplan, I have used them for past 16 years for other pets and they have always been excellent.
Step Daughter uses M&S and although they did eventually pay out they took 3 months to pay out for a very large operation expense. I know she regrets using them now and is debating a change.
my parents are with pet plan, their cairn terrier was really ill as a pup and had major surgery to sort a blood vessel around his liver
and pet plan were good, their last dog was diabetic and they were good then too.
not cheap tho, we are with pets at home for the whole life cover thingy.

We have Penny with Argos and have the top policy for £18.70 per month, they have always been very helpful and responsive to any questions etc. Previously all my cats and dogs were with Petplan and they were ALWAYS great, we had lots of claims on our cats. However the quote for Penny was nearly £30+ so we chose Argos based on feedback from friends. I think all insurers could potentially be difficult
We have Charlie insured with M&S and fot the first 3 years were very reasonable despite me making several very high claims. However the last 3 years they have gone up loads (last year was £40 per month) so I know in March it will go up lots. However as we've claimed around £30,000 from them I really don't mind paying.
Dudley was insured with them too but when his renewal came through a couple of weeks ago, it had gone up to £50 per month. So we've just changed him to John Lewis and the same policy is £20 per month. I'm sure it will go up when the renewal comes but so would M&S again.
We use PetPlan and they've been great, we've had quite a few claims in two years and no arguments or anything or any massive price hikes as a result I'm pleased with them.
