I have a nearly four year old dog and a 10 month old bitch. My bitch is far more independant than the dog. I have found her much easier, and I think I will be getting a bitch the next time around.
I think as Mel said, personality is the most important thing, however that can be hard to judge in a puppy who is just a few weeks old.
