I plan to leave mine for 3 hours a time as that can sometimes unexpectedly extend out to 4 hours. Between me, my parents and the pet-visitor we seem to have my 2 kept happy, toileted and with human company! WELL worth investing good money in ensuring happy dogs IMO!

Yes, to me, it's not just about how long they can hold it, but also the lack of company.
I have routinely left my dogs for 5+ hours in the past, due to work, and they were fine (more happy than I was stuck at work, that's for sure) but they had each other for company too. I do think 7+ hours is too long for a dog, on a regular basis, especially if they are a lone dog.
