hello

as my lab is coming up to 2 years old, how long is the estimated time to leave her - i.e. 6 hours/8 hours etc

I work part time from 8.00 to 3.00 but may have to stay a bit longer, would she be ok to leave this long...

what is the average time that most of you guys leave your labs (if you have to work)
Many thanks

If I was working those hours I would be bringing in someone to let her out and walk her - 4 hours at a push most can manage it's unfair in my view to leave her alone for any longer.

Not sure if that helps.

I work from home so I know I am very lucky, but on occasions when I do have to leave them it would definitely not be any more than 4 hours.

Willow goes to day care after 4 hours if she has to be left but having said that she often doesn't wee for more than 12 hours although she is walked every few hours or goes in the garden. She poos twice a day after she is fed and wees rarely she has water available all the time and drinks readily I reckon she must have a huge bladder Wish I could wait as long , Embarassed she is usually too busy sniffing and running to worry about weeing.

This is just my view, but I never leave Molly longer than 3 hours on her own (.she is still crated) I never considered having a dog until I gave up work when my husband died. Then all my dogs arrived. I'm not saying you shouldn't have dogs if you work but they should never be left longer (In my view) longer than 4 hours.I'm sure other will disagree with me!

I wouldn't be happy to leave mine for longer than 3-4 hours on a regular basis.

They do however, go for about 7 hours after a good run, without needing to empty again and I have on very rare occasions (for weddings, funerals and the likes) had to leave them for 6 hours. There are four of them though and two cats, so they are not short of company. I couldn't leave a young, single dog for anywhere near that amount of time though. That to me, just isn't right.

Personally, if I had to leave me two for that length of time, I would be getting a dog walker in during the day Smile Apart from having to "hold it", I would have thought she would get very bored being left for so long on her own.

Totally agree with the others if you're out that long you need a dog walker to break up her day.

Yes 4 hours is the most I leave mine too, and I try to do that no more than twice a week.

In you position I would certainly be looking at getting someone in to help with walking or daycare. It is fairer to your dog and also will stop problems setting in if she becomes bored and destructive etc.
