Update 31 Jan:

I'm afraid we have some very sad news Sad The vet removed Ethel's lump, which was huge, but she stopped breathing and the vet was unable to bring her back Sad(

Thank you to everyone who donated to give Ethel a much needed chance. We are all so upset that she didn't make it. Run free Ethel, knowing how many people care about you ♥

Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

************
Update: Initial total now reached - and more - thanks to all the lovely people who have donated flower It may be that there are more costs to come, we will update when we have more info. Thank you so much for responding so quickly and generously to our appeal Smile

***********

Oldies Club has been asked to help this lovely girl, a black Labrador cross, thought to be around 10 years old. She was picked up very early one morning as a stray.

Sadly she has an ENORMOUS tumour attached to her chest. I just don't understand how anyone can let a dog get into that state, it's heartbreaking Crying or Very sad

You can read her story and make a donation towards her operation here:
http://www.justgiving.com/EthelsOp

*Warning* Please note that the second photograph on the link shows the tumour in full and it is VERY upsetting. You can click on the link, read her story and make a donation without the need to click on the second thumbnail.

Vets have advised that it should be fairly easy to remove and as she is otherwise good health, we have agreed to fund the operation and bring her into Oldies Club care. She will be having the op under the care of the dog warden as surgery is the priority, and we have a foster home lined up for when she is ok to travel after the operation.

Thanks for reading/donating flower We will keep you updated on how she is doing.

Angela

Have donated too.

Poor Ethel Sad , it's just so sad to see what some dogs are left to cope with.
There is no excuse to abandon a dog, there are so many rescue centres around. If the owner/s couldn't or didn't want to keep her they could have taken her to a centre couldn't they?
It's a blessing Ethel has been found.

Angela, you and all your fosterers are stars Smile Razz

I just want to add a thank you for the warning about how upsetting the 2nd photo would be. I took heed and didn't look.

How could any human being leave that poor dog in that state. Had the owner got no humanity? I am disgusted.

I hope Ethel goes through her surgery and convalescence without problems and lives a long and happy life afterwards. ((((Hugs)))) for the darling girl.

Thank you all flower

Just to confirm, since we are over the initial target (though there may well be further costs to come), that all money donated will certainly be put to good use and, as stated on Ethel's Just Giving page:

Please note that should Oldies Club supporters be generous enough to donate more than is needed for Ethel's vet bill, any excess money will be directed to the charity’s general fund and used to help other older dogs in its care.

Thanks very much for everyone's support Smile

Great news that the total for Ethel's op has been reached and surpassed. Personally I'm very happy for any excess to be directed to where most needed to help other oldies.

Please keep us posted about the op and Ethel's recovery. I'm so pleased she's got a comfy foster home to go to to convalesce.
