Hi,

Wheat gluten free (WGF)or not is my post. So my choc boy has been on CSJ CP21 and 24 mix since he was about 5 months and doing great on it having previous been on pro plan.

Next month he will be 11 months and I have a few options in the CSJ range some are WGF some are not. So what is best do feed WGF or not?

Whats the benefits? As far as I know he would be ok if the feed was not WGF.

Are most feed WGF or not WGF?

Thanks

I think probably "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"! Smile If your pup is doing well on that feed currently then I would continue with it, and not be too hung up on whether it is gluten free or not. If he doesn't have an intolerance at this point, then it doesn't really matter.

Hi,

I need to change his feed as this was a kind of sub for puppy feed, as levels were right but I want to put him onto an adult feed will slighty less protien around the 20% mark

I was given the option of WGF but hadn't gave it a thought before, guessing his current feed must be WGF

Why do you want to put him on such a low protein food? Shocked

Your feeding an adult food at present, so why not just continue with that? Smile

The ones you are feeding are 21 or 24% protein so I'd just stick with those if he's doing well. Smile

Hi,

Cost is one reason as the stuff he is on has a lot more in it that a puppy would take, it's normally for more working, sports , rescue dogs it's about £30 but us prob same spec as anything you buy in shops at £50 mark, but other ranges are £16-20, it's what I was recommended to do a while back!

He can always go back on it if required! I though 20% was farily normal for adult dog when he was on proplan at 30% he was mental!

Thanks.

According to Sam's specialist wheat and gluten intolerance isn't a big problem in labs even though lots of people seem to think it is so unless your boy actually showed signs of having problems with it - vomiting, diarrhoea, skin and ear problems then I wouldn't worry about whether it is WGF or not tbh.

I was going to say the same.

My lot get fed all manner of things, some with wheat in, some without. As long as it doesn't upset them or cause a reaction, then I can't see the harm in feeding it.

I doubt whether it was the protein that was causing that! More likely his age, too many calories or additives. Smile

The trouble is you have to weigh it up.... The cheaper foods might have more filler so less meat. It might mean you need to feed more to keep him in the same condition and may also lead to increased poop the other end.
Mine are on 38% protein so don't get hung up on the protein content too much Wink
