I'm not sure getting a ceramic bowl would help your situation like suggested as our labrador of similar age tries to pick hers up in her mouth. She is at the stage of trying to pick up anything with her mouth, from her heavy ceramic bowl or mugs that we drink from.

We don't have this water problem with Myka but I can suggest a non-spill water bowl. We have one that we bought for traveling in the car, might be worth a go? They can work well even in the house and its not to hard to get them to learn how to use the bowl. i remember the instructions with ours suggesting to start with taking the inner out (that stops the spills) and just adding water. So they get used to it being a water bowl and then add the inner again.

The only problem I can see with the above is if your lab is anything like ours then it might not work. Myka chews everything and that kind of bowl would not be safe with her. She'd destroy it easily Sad.

Hope this helps and if not that you find a solution that works for you;. Labrador puppies hey? bloody hard work!

Bella has been known to do this and managed to crack a ceramic bowl when she dropped it! My solution was to buy a larger bowl and although she has tried, she can't pick it up Wink Laughing

Nothing brings the blood pressure down like rugby tackling an evil labrador. I'm never satisfied until all four paws are off the ground.

Cooper's waterbowl is outside for this very reason. He too used to love paddling, tipping it over and then laying in the resultant puddle.

So he has a heavy ceramic one (the beige colour with "dog" written round the side) and it lives outside. He is crated during the day, so has no access to water for about 3 hours. BUt we always make sure he has water when he is let out, when we come back in from walk, and he always has his food soaked in warm water, so we make sure he is hydrated.

I have the largest Mason Cash bowl I could find to prevent tipping and it is sat on a rubber feeding mat from Pets At Home to catch the drips. This solved my picking up/kicking around problem but it doesn't help with paddling.

For a paddler I think your best options are a raised bowl, a travel bowl (unless a chewer too) or maybe try a spaniel bowl that has a wider base than top.

aw picking up a ceramic one too amazing what they can carry when they want to, Sam took a whole full bottle of robinsons orange out to the garden the other week just because he thought shopping should live in the garden Rolling Eyes

Tried Sam with a non-spill bowl once he thought it was a new toy challenge - how long does it take one labrador to chew enough of the bowl to tip out all the water... Rolling Eyes

... so how about a giant stone horse trough then if she gets fed up she can just go for a swim... Laughing

John yes I hate labradors too Laughing Laughing but its ok because a lady with a lab of her own kindly informed me this morning that mine is definately not a labrador but is a labradoodle Shocked erm no love not quite! Shocked Rolling Eyes

Indi did this as a pup and it was such a nightmare at the time. She would dig in the water then lie in the puddles!!! It wasnt even hot weather at the time!!! We got her a non tip bowl that had a rubber edge and she couldnt upturn them. She still went for a paddle in them. I then went to her "well mummy isnt going to fill it up again soon so you`ll just go thirsty for a while." Soon as she realised I wasnt going to fill it straight back up and she didnt have anything to drink for the next 10 mins she soon learnt to stop!
