Tamar our 8 month old puppy has developed a new game. It goes a long the lines of ... If I am left in my area for more than about 10 minutes I will play with my water bowl and spread water EVERYWHERE!
We have started filling her bowl only half full so that the damage is not so great!
Does anyone have any suggestions? Will she be ok left with no water for a 3 hour period or should she have constant access?
She'll be fine left for 3 hours with no water, as long as the weather isn't really hot.
To save on the mess try putting a heavy water bowl inside a large cat litter tray to catch the splashes. You could even line it with a towel if you thought she wouldn't pull the towel out.

It's what Labradors do! Hence mine's water bowl in under the cover outside. Big Bad Beth was the worse of mine, would get both front paws in the bowl and scratch it all out onto the floor, then if it's a hot day, lay in the resultant puddle!
Seriously though try a heavy ceramic bowl such as the mason cash ones (available in lots of pet shops and supermarkets) and put it in a lipped tray or mat like Jules said with a towel underneath. When you're around if you see her do it say no and distract her with doing something else. Some of them do grow out of it mine did!
CJ`s water bowl is on a raised stand, he`s never tried to tip it over in that, its just off the floor enough to have a little clearance, not high at all.
Use a Raised feeding bowl holder, stops all the problems, you just get a dog that 'holds' water in their mouths and take great joy in emptying the contents all over your floor instead

Try one of the spill proof bowls designed for the car. Tarka used to carry hers about, tip it up and try to splash in it and even when picked up and turned over completely on the carpet with about a litre of water in it very little comes out. Saved my sanity when she was a pup!
Mmm, I used to carry a non spill one in the back of the Landrover. One day, tossing a sledge hammer in the back after a morning fencing and I no longer have a non spill! You can always straighten an alloy one out with a hammer if necessary!
