I love newfie's! They are like hairer bigger labradors and absolutely gorgeous! One lives across the road from my parents (called Ommie) and she is lovely - doesn't like the hot weather but when we had that cold snap and lots of snow last winter she was in her element!

I know what you mean by them making labs look small! I think Tiber is a decent size until i meet one of them and he looks like a puppy again!

My dad used to have one, called Tav, named after his local The Railway Tavern. Gorgeous, soppy, loving dog. We chose Max as his dad was quite long coated and had a little bit of a newfie look about his head, and I think of him as smaller, bouncier Tav sometimes!

Just like any breed, they aren't all just big, soppy dogs. I often see one out, called Angel, who is rather dog aggressive. Her poor elderly owner has awful trouble controlling her, if Angel gets a bee in her bonnet. We generally avoid her like the plague these days, if only for the sake of her owners arms.

I love big dogs, just as much as I love small ones. Not sure I could live with something that hairy and slobbery though, even if they did all have fantastic temperaments.

They're gorgeous dogs and huge too. The breeders we got Max from also bred Newfoundlands and had won numerous awards at shows.

I met a 6 month old Newfie when Bella was 6 months old Shocked She was very sweet and excitable (like Bella). I suspect her owner had a fairly large place though as she had a swimming pool ... for the dogs (she had 5 newfies, but only the pup and mum with her at the time Very Happy )

I don't think I could live with that level of slobber and hair, although I agree they are lovely looking dogs.

Jets best friend is a Hoverwart and he's about the same height as a Newfie but less bulky and nearly zero slobber. I could live with him Laughing
