Hi all, our dear Blacky has a very sensitive stomach as if we give her treats or any other food apart from her daily food she gets gas in the best case and the runs in the worst case.

Do any of you know if there any treats specifically designed for dogs with a very sensitive digestive system?

Thank you for you help,

Simon

There are treats available for dogs with a sensitive digestion, but you could also try coming up with your own. You can try different fruit and veg or even cheese (although that may be more of a problem). Try a few things and see what agree's with her and then you can use those as treats. You may even find she is fine with liver, but in small quantities.

You could make your own like tuna cake or something. Or oven dried liver.

I bought Gillie some of the Fish4dogs Tiddlers which he loves but they are really expensive! £22 for 2kg instead of £3 for 2KG of the Pets at Home biscuits. Once he has finished those I think we are going to fill the biscuit tub with his Duck and Potato kibble and treat him out of his daily allowance. He barely tastes them so I doubt he will care!

I think its a case of trial and error but I'd personally avoid the commercial 'treats' and go for either her food, a different complete food so it tastes different but isn't rich or try some small bits of bland human food. My boy who is super sensitive actually does better with this approach - he can't eat more kibble without effects but he can eat white bread, honey, boiled mashed potato, boiled white fish without any problems and I'm working on seeing if little bits of things helps him build tolerance and become less sensitive over a course of time.

Thank you all. I had not thought about making my own treats. This is a great idea.

Another rather expensive option are the Pro-Reward treats. They are freeze dried 100% meat and I am tending to have a few packs in just in case I've not had time/inclination to make my own for Bran who has IBD and a whole range of intolerances/allergies Rolling Eyes

Wainwrights at pets at home do freeze dried duck or chicken treats which literally have min 98% meat and pea protein is only other ingredient presumably to keep dry

we were using boiled chicken as a training treat but that was causing excess wind and loose stools.

we now use orijen food as training treats, they are nice little kibble sizes, Harringtons also do a sensitive treat but our pup spits them back out!!

All, once again thank you for all your tips. you got me thinking and right now i am trying out some aged dried parmigian cheese. It seems to do the trick.
