Posted: Fri Jan 20, 2012 8:14 pm Post subject: People complaining about Charlie =/
Today we got a letter from the council about Charlie. In the letter it said that people are complaining about Charlie being outside the garden unattended. The problem there is he is NEVER outside the garden on his own! It also says that he is pooing outside the garden. Again he never ever has before. It then said that if I bring him out he has to be on a lead the whole time and muzzled =/ So I cannot bring him outside to play off lead anymore.
I have no idea why people have said such stupid lies! Ok so he barks at people...I have never met a dog that does not bark at anyone approaching their house. There is absolutely no way I am muzzling him! Now when the landlord finds out she is going to make us get rid of him.
I am actually so angry right now! Why can't people just mind their own business?

I'm sorry to hear you are having to face all these problems as well Sarah. Have the council said why they want him to be muzzled? Has he tried to bite anyone (and I don't mean mouth the way lab puppies do). I wouldn't be surprised if it is just one spiteful person causing all these problems as is often the csae.
I'm sorry I can't give any helpful advice, but hope the fuss dies down and nothing further happens.

No he has never tried to bite anyone. He doesn't even play bite like most pups. He does bark but when the person comes close to him he will stop and wag his tail. I will read the letter again. I didn't read it all because I was so annoyed!

'The complaint refers to your habit of allowing this dog to wander the area unattended.'
Which is a whole load of bull! I cannot believe it..Why on this earth would I let him wander outside. It is so stupid! I see dogs wander the estate everyday. I hope these are getting this letter too!
It doesn't say why he should be muzzled.
It also says a dog warden is coming to see him and make sure he is not vicious etc..And the dog warden will also be visiting the estate on a number of occasions to see if any dogs are wandering around. That pasrt is great because they will see it is not Charlie! And then maybe they can address other owners for letting their dogs wander.
My mother is now gone to the council to tell them it is a big lie. Hopefully they will believe us =/

I would let the dog warden come round so that he can see that Charlie isn't some sort of vicious out of control dog. I would also write back to the Council disputing the claim and ask for proof that it is Charlie (i.e. photographs). Make sure you have a tag with his name and address on his collar so you can show the warden that he can be identified and you are complying with the law.
I would also ask them why he needs to be muzzled and tell them that until they can supply proof you will not be complying with any of the demand in the letter as you believe it is someone making false accusations.
Thanks for the advice. He has a tag with his name and my number but no address. I will have to go get him a new one. I still dont get it.. He is in with me the whole time apart from when i let him out to go toilet in the back garden! And outside he is on a lead apart from 5 minutes off lead in the green. And i am always there! Oh i really have to go calm down before i explode!

Someone may have reported a fully grown labrador or another breed of dog and assumed it was you because they've heard Charlie barking or something. The dog warden might take one look at him and say that he mustn't be the dog as he doesn't match the description and that might be the end of it.
Try to calm down Sarah...I can understand you're upset.
I think this is probably a standard letter that has been sent to all dog owners on your estate.
When the dog warden comes to see Charlie he will realise that you are a responsible dog owner and that Charlie isn't a threat to anybody.
Don't be worrying yourself over this
Edit..sorry, just re-read your post Sarah. Charlie was actually named in the letter you received. In that case it's definitely mistaken identity !!
