I have been threatening for months now to get the boys off JWB kibble and now I am on my last 15kg bag I am going to change. George's wind from both ends has become so extreme (he sounds like an old man) and reading online reviews of JWB it seems it is a common problem when feeding this food.
I want to feed them a good quality wet food such as Nature Diet but according to their feeding guidelines I would need to feed 3 trays per dog per day which would cost in the region of £5 per day which I just can't afford.
Do any of you who feed Nature Diet mix it with a biscuit or a kibble? Or do you feed a different wet and dry food combination? I have to feed hypoallegenic as George has many allergies.
I tried to do a search as I am sure this has been discussed before but couldn't find it.
I give mine a half tray each of ND for their dinner and kibble for their breakfast. Currently Barking Heads - but I swap and change their kibble as the mood takes me.
I used to use ND and JWB together. However there's no reason why you couldn't use another brand of kibble. Have you ever tried Wainwrights Salmon and Potato?
They are the two brands of kibble I was thinking of trying. Just wasn't sure if it was right to use a fully complete kibble and Natures Diet but I'll give it a go. George's wind seems to me much worse on the fish JWB than it was on the turkey but I think its time for a complete change.
I think you'd have to use another complete kibble to mix in rather than just biscuits. If you just used biscuits as a mixer you would be diluting all the nutrients and could cause malnutrition. As above I don't think it would matter what complete kibble you used as long as it was nutritionally balanced.
It takes me back about 30 years to when my dog was fed Pedigree Chum or Pal in tins on top of mixer (broken up biscuits). Complete foods were only just coming out and I remember my friend's dogs doing poo which looked similar to soggy Alpen because it appeared to pass straight through them and come out more or less the same at the other end.
I give JWB turkey and rice adult kibble with Nature Diet and we've had no problems with wind though I do appreciate every dog is different.
I give Django half a tray of chicken ND plus 110 g JWB kibble morning and evening and he gets a couple of bonios/treats/tastes of cheese etc for good behaviour through the day. I give the food mixed in his bowl.
He is an average sized year old male and weighs about 32kg.
I feel I feed him lots more than other people feed their dogs but believe me, he'd eat a lot more still if he could get it and sometimes does since he is an accomplished food thief.
If you wanted to go down the mixer route then Burns do a hypoallergenic mixer and I believe the bag also includes feeding guidelines on ratio of meat/wet food - mixer.
Although I actually find that normal Burns goes well with Nature diet or their own Penlam Farm wet food.
You may not find the Naturediet cures the wind problem though - lamb Naturediet gives my GSP wind as does the puppy version!!
