Anyone know anything about them?
Hubby and Son Number Two have expressed a desire for a Telescope to do a bit of star gazing, but I have no idea which sort to try to get them. There are so many different one's out there and the price range is HUGE.
They would only want something basic (easy), but it would have to be sturdy as Hubby is awfully clumsy.
My budget would be up to about £200. So any ideas?
A lot will depend on what they want to look at in the night sky, if it things thats close too like the moon and some of the planets/stars then a basic one will suffice, minimum size of 3" aperture to get a reasonable field of view.
I`m still very amateur in my astronomy, so I`d advise you to have a Google, something like, best telescope for a beginner, that should explain what Reflectors and Refractors do and which is best for the type of observing Dickie and your son want to do.
Knowing men each will want something different , you should be able to get a pretty decent Telescope for your budget, they range from around £100 to quite a few thousand.
All I know,is that looking at "the" stars,is a hell of a lot more interesting than looking at " your" stars !!!
A friend of mine has a £200 telescope and it's fantastic.Sorry, don't know the make.

Have they been watching "Foxy Coxy" by any chance?
Who is Foxy Coxy?
I don't know where this sudden desire has come from. Hubby mentioned it out of blue last month, when in all the years I've been with him (30+) he's never mentioned it before and then my son suddenly piped up that he fancied a telescope about a week later. I've always fancied one but have never been able to justify getting one before now.

Professor Brian Cox, of course . Stargazing Live has been on this week.
Although, yes, he's the shiniest smiliest professor in the universe - I wouldn't have swapped my old physics lecturer for him. My old physics lecturer was comedy gold....none of his experiments worked, and when they went wrong they REALLY went wrong. Little did we know that we could have been sitting in the epicentre of a wormhole by the end of the hour.
Stargazing Live has a lot of resources for schools and so, no doubt, the schools have been plying the kids with loads of nonsense about telescopes being a great thing for them to pester their parents for.

Ah.....I'm with you now. It was the Foxy bit that threw me, as in my eyes he's far from that, with his almost permanent smug grin. In fact wasn't he voted "The Face You Would Most Like To Slap" or something like that.
