Hello All
As you know we rescued our gorgeous girl Ellie in the summer and one of the conditions was we needed to have her spayed and the time has come around and its tomorrow!!!!!! Yikes
Its been 15 years since we last went through this and I will admit to being a bit worried. I am due to drop her off at 9am and then I have an appointment at 10.30 to distract myself as if I am at home alone all day I think I shall go gaga!
So I am wondering about recovery - I have cleared the diary for Friday as I think it will take a day for the GA to work through her system.
Ellie sleeps upstairs with us and I am not sure whether doing the stairs is advisable and we no longer have a crate for her - thats gone back to the rescue.
For those of you who've been through this process - what we your girls like in the first few days and what worked well and would you do anything differently?
All advise and reassurance gratefully received.

Bess was pretty clingy and bit a whiney following when she came home from the vets. We had a bit of a restless night , she didn't sleep well, i slept in the living room with her (she another spoilt girlie who sleeps in our bedroom - in fact our bed). She was fine the next day - she hated the collar the vets put on her to stop her licking her stitches, and a lovely lady who used to be on LF advised me to put an old t shirt on her and tie at the back, this covered her stitches nicely and stopped her licking them.
The GA was the worst part of it when Bea went through it once that had worn off we had a battle to keep her calm She had no idea anything had been done Stairs are usually a no no so I would not risk it unless you can carry her ( calf style)
Oh and as already mentioned an old T-shirt worked well with Bea too, stopped her from getting to the stitches.
Steady leash walking for a few days and she will be fine
It's always us that do all the fretting & worrying they often take it all in their stride
Hope Everything goes smoothly & you manage to keep yourself busy tomorrow until pick up time x

It is a bit close to the time but if you can rub some arnica cream around the area and give her some arnica tablets - helps the healing and reduces the bruising.
China was quite dopey when she came home on the day - but after that the nightmare was keeping her calm and not hurtling round playing sumo (I had borrowed a crate and one time Bo - her sumo partner - got in with her for a cage fighting match!).
Sending lots of speedy recovery vibes. I would keep her downstairs for the first day/night. She may be quite whiny/howly after the GA and also feel the cold and shiver as the body temp regulation goes out of the window. We put a light duvet or fleecy blanket around ours when they're coming round and for the first few hours when they're woozy and not moving around much.
The t-shirt is a good idea if she won't like a collar, but some dogs don't bother too much about the stitches. Yes, lead walking for 7-10 days post-op so she doesn't run. In the house, depending on her energy levels, use distractions like gentle games and kongs to keep her from bouncing around too much.
Good luck and we'll be thinking about you and her tomorrow.

Will be thinking about you tomorrow. We got Millie last year and had her spayed. Totally agree with advice on other posts; keep downstairs first night at least, t-shirt is brilliant and much more comfortable for her. We didn't crate her but I stayed with her for the first night. She will be drowsy and most likely cry wih GA but rest and sleep heals. Lots of cuddles essential. Restrict walking to lead whilst stitches in which they will not understand after a few days.
Keep yourself busy!!!
