No helpful hints I'm afraid, but I'm posting to say I feel your pain! Max is a nightmare when people come round - irrespective of if they ignore him, he is just relentless. Friends came round a few weeks ago and we said don't give him eye contact - no use, he was still fussing round them 3 hours after they arrived. I am at the end of my tether with this, so watch your post with interest and send huge sympathy from us

I live in a very tiny house with Millie and her 2 daughters. It is very exciting for them when anyone comes round and Millie is way over the top, closely followed by Cassie and because they are competing for attention they are i have to say a nightmare But i have sorted it. I found getting people to ignore them didnt work for them but i use a babygate, and at Christmas i shut them in the lounge, let everyone in and got the humans settled in a room behind the babygate, let dogs loose in hall and everywhere other than with guests and within 5mins i open babygate, dogs are so bored by having to wait to say hello they say a quick Hi and go off back to bed in the other room. This has worked a few times for us as they have to cure themselves of that initial rush of adrenalin.
I hope you find something that works for you.

OH yes i have a jumper too,if anyone visits he goes ballistic (in a good way),he has my poor mum on the floor, luckily she sees the funny side.I recommend the ignore and no eye contact, when i get in from the school reun, which takes literally 5mins Ted acts like hes not seen me in years so i just walk straight past him first, then acknowledge him later, seems to work.As for people who dont visit that often,im afraid he just goes in his cage, especially my kids friens who stand rigid while he trys to greet them .Your parents dont sound very supportive to be honest, you have a lot on your plate and i think your doing great, just ignore them xx
