hi we have just bought a chocolate brown labrodor pup "Prince" he is 10 weeks old we got him off a nice lady who is not a breeder both mu and dad are pure breed kc registered but Prince is not and i would like to register him but dont know if itt is possible i have a family tree for him whiich goes back to his great grandparents on both side who were all registered is it possible for me to register him? any info would be great
Sadly only the breeder can register your pup so hen you say that you didnt get him from a breeder, did you buy him from someone that didnt breed him then, like from the person that bought him originally?
yes i bought him of a nice lady who owned mum and the father was owned by her mother inlaw shame would of really liked to register him
As has been said above, only the breeder can register him (and if she had a litter - then she IS a breeder).
Unfortunately - if the pups can't be registered, then there are only bad reasons for this if both parents are KC registered - usually involving one or both parents not being health-tested and therefore endorsements not lifted- the dam being too old or too young, or already had too many litters
She might have been a 'nice' lady, unfortunately - she hasn't been totally up-front when it comes to her litter
Unfortunately, in most cases, if both parents are KC registered but the pups aren't, there is normally a reason for it (ie mum or dad too young/old, breeding restrictions on one of the parents etc etc). Not always the case I guess, but when you think it costs just a nominal amount (£13 per pup) to register the pups with the KC, why wouldn't a breeder do it if everything was in order?
Sorry to contradict, but if the "Nice lady" bred him then she IS a breeder. Whether she is a responsible breeder of not is another matter.

The short answer there is no, only the breeder can register the pups. So that begs the question, "Why has the breeder not registered the pups?" The cost of registering is just £13 so I dont accept it's to keep the price down. Other reasons could be because the dam was too young or because the dam was too old, or maybe because the dam has already had too many litters. Yet another possibility is that the litter is too closely bred.
Sorry to sound negative. Have you spoken to the breeder about registration of the pup? What did she say?
It's possible if you post the details of the family tree, (pedigree) that I might be able to tell you a little about your pup.
i see what you are sayng thought you had to be a registered breeder maybe am not sure how it all works is it possible for her to register just my pup alone as i know most of her litterwere already gone if sehe can then i ill get back to her and ask as i have only had prince since saturday and still have her number thanks

As above, it depends whether there are any factors preventing her from registering your pup - i.e mum too old or young - parents carrying endorsements which haven't been lifted by the breeder because the parents haven't been health-tested - or the bitch has already had 4 litters
Alternatively - the breeder is a licensed breeder who has already taken a litter from the bitch in the last 12 months - licensed breeders are not permitted to take more than one litter in a 12 month period from a bitch.
You can ask the question - if she is able to register your pup, why didn't she register the litter in the first place?
If registration was so important to you, why did you buy a pup that was un-registered.
i id ask her why she just told us she didnt not how it all works and how to go about it as its the first time she had had pups. Its not that important to me i just thought it would be better to register him if it cant be done then it cant be done we havant lost anything wont change the way we love him or treat him
i see what you are sayng thought you had to be a registered breeder
No, any breeder can register their puppies, providing that they have complied with all the rules.

Yes, again providing she has complied with all the rules. If she will not then I would have to assume that she has broken the rules, which are in place for the welfare of the dam.
