Just a warning this is an x-rated post!

I just need a bit of reassurance that all is normal and well. I assume it is, but it's just very very unusual for Ivan. He does "play" with his blanket (usually after meals and walks when he's most frisky), but this morning after the usual blanket shenanigans he was just standing there bold as brass with the entire of his insides on the outside.....if you know what I mean Embarassed

Because I have never seen it poke more than a couple of inches out (lipstick-style) this was a shock. I honestly thought something had collapsed in the mechanism. I decided to leave him alone to see if he sorted it out himself....which he did thank goodness, although he does keep nudging the area as if its uncomfortable. I've had a look, and it all seems OK. But I'm still worried something had gone wrong because it just looked really "wrong" at the time.

He also has been having some really strange facial twitches, twice in the last week. His nose, cheeks and teeth tremble for about 10-20 seconds. This totally freaked me out, I thought he was about to have a fit. It's like as if he's sniffing about 20 times a second! I looked it up on the internet and found out about something called the "Flehmen response"....which usually happens when animals pick up a really really interesting scent.

I hope that's what it is, it sounds about right. But I just want to know from those people who have got normal red-blooded male dogs if this is normal behaviour. You see, the dogs I've had have not really shown this behaviour before. It's also very strange that he's suddenly started doing this after three years!

Yes, he's neutered, and LOADS of girls live in the area but he has shown no interest so far....in fact he's petrified of them. Although I can't be 100% certain that there isn't a new one around.

Maybe it's me, I'm going through a few changes myself, maybe he's reacting to that?

But it's such weird behaviour, I just want to know if anyone has experienced anything like this. I know the fully extended lipstick is probably OK, but the face nonsense is very very strange. I'd never heard of it until I googled it.

I hope JohnW sees this.I'm sure he'll have some answers.
Sounds like the sort of thing a dog does when something is irritating in his sinus's....?

Before I had Bentley "done" exactly the same thing happened to him. He was humping his blanket - stood up - eyes glazed and he ejaculated all over the floor. In all my years of having a dog - I'd never seen it gone THAT far!

It was time to get him done - and neither of my boys have humped their blankets since.

Laughing Laughing Unfortunately, having him neutered at 6 months did nothing for his blanket-love or for his naughtiness.

His face wobbles are the most intriguing, he's due a visit to the vets soon anyway so I'll ask while I'm there. Although I'm 90% certain it is the "teeth chattering" they do when they're excited because his ears and general body language is that of a highly excited Ivan...looking out the window to see what's out there, etc. Also coupled with the other behaviour, so I think he's caught on to a new dog in the area.

Cross fingers!

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Just to reassure you, I dont think you have anything to worry about

Frank humps after his dinner every night. He goes upstairs, and if the spare bedroom door is open he will drag the single duvet off the bed and hump it like mad. We are downstairs and can hear "bang-bang-bang-bang-bang". Its like living with a randy teenager!

On occasion, he will get himself into a particular frenzy (he pants like he's done a hard run Rolling Eyes ) and his entire "lipstick" as you put it is visible. The first time I saw it I was horrified, because the damn thing is most huge Shocked Shocked Shocked and like you, I was only accustomed to seeing the, uhm, how shall I put it... little red tip? Very Happy

On the occasions when he has done this, he has put everything away most tidily afterwards although as you observed, often he is a bit licky down there for a short time.

And yes... Frank is castrated.

You should've seen what happened when we met an in season greyhound bitch at the weekend Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked with her irresponsible owners walking her at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon!!!!! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes
