I have got some ox liver - can Stella eat it at six months old?? What do you do with liver? I thought about using it as a training treat - do I dry it out in the oven? At what temp/time??

Thanks in advance LFers : )

Have a google search for liver cake. In fact there might even be a recipe section on here?

It smells foul but the dogs love it!

Hi
Zaks been raw fed since 18 months old and i changed Brodie over within the first week after we got him at 12 weeks. Both of them have liver once a week (raw obviously). I do use it for high value treats for training and then I chop it up the size of a 50p cover it in greaseproof and stick it in the microwave for about 20 minutes, that dries it out quite scrunchy, dry enough to put it in your pocket, Laughing Laughing Laughing honestly Laughing Laughing Laughing

here's our liver cake recipe -

half pound SR flour
half pound liver
1 egg
1 teaspoon garlic powder
half cup milk

Chuck it all in the blender until smooth, add enough water (a few tablespoons) to form a sponge consistency. Bake at 200 degrees until no liquid left when pricked (30 - 40 mins). Frankie loves it and it last ages in the fridge

We also make training treats - simmer the liver for 5 minutes, cut into small pieces then dry out in a very low oven until hard. Frankie loves it - the chewier the better!

I just wash the liver put it on a baking tray and leave in the oven for a good hour at low heat then rinse it again put back in the oven for another 30mins to an hour until its all dry then break into bits to use for training. Two of my dogs go mad for it but the other just doesn't like it Very Happy

I raw feed but cook liver as it's quite high in vitamin A and can give them loose stools, and if your dog isn't raw fed in any case, then it's a better idea to cook it rather than risk having a bout of the runs.

The only warning that I'd give about liver cake is that I've managed to kill 4 blenders/food processors making it Embarassed

Only trouble with making liver treats is that you get every dog in the area wanting to be your bestest friend Surprised Rolling Eyes Laughing
