Does he start from the bottom like that, or just when he is half way down and has to go back?

I'm not sure what mine would do if I asked them to go back, if they were halfway down, as if I tell them to "Go Back" on the flat, they don't turn round, they just go into reverse. Perhaps he has been taught to do the same.

It's very odd though and very endearing...bless him. Very Happy

Thank you for that.

I wonder if it is less stress on the joints to do that, does anyone know?

Archie sometimes reverses like that, only the top two or three stairs and usually when I am trying to get his car harness on (he's not too keen on it!)

A friend's lab used to do that - I think they had put it down to him having bad joints as he had quite a lot of health issues going on.

I had forgotten him doing that until seeing that video! It is the strangest thing to see - an excited dog wanting to run up the stairs but turning around at the bottom to reverse up!

I have a stair gate at the bottom of the stairs so if Shadow goes to the bottom and realises I'm not following her, she will reverse the whole way back up the stairs Laughing If she starts at the bottom of the stairs on the floor, then she goes the normal way Very Happy

She follows me everywhere, so if I go downstairs and realise halfway down I've forgotten something, she will reverse back up. Even if I pass her, she carries on reversing, rather than turning round and going up normally Laughing

That's fab - a great party trick!

You could send it in to one of those daft tv shows or oddbox that they have on bbc news early in the morning! Laughing

Sam reverses down corridors and through doors but never up the stairs!
