Well we went today and we had fun Smile

He surprised me with how well he focused on me despite there being other dogs in the school doing different things (there were 5 dogs in the class split into littlies and biggies, so there were only 2 of us with our instructor!) He sat and waited really nicely when it wasn't his turn and was quite happy to do his runs off lead (well tucked into collar anyway)

We did the tunnel first - the trainer held him and i called him through. He flew through no problems but I would have been more surprised if there were problems as he spends half his life in the cover under the brambles and going along hedges etc.

We then moved onto jumps - now obviously I know he can jump but teaching him to go over one and then on to the next one took a bit of thinking from him. He kept coming to me in between to get a treat!

By the end we were doing some mini jump and tunnel courses and eventually he started getting the idea. Obviously the jumps were very low at the moment and he didn't have to put too much effort into jumping but that's good while he's still youngish and learning what to do.

He started to get the idea of me sending him onto the jump and the last run we did he did every jump without coming back to me for reassurance Smile Obviously got his brain working too cos he's now soundo on my bed!

I think next week there's going to be a couple more big dogs in the class which will be good and I'm already looking forward to it Smile

Laura you're right - I think it might be addictive Smile

Don't worry there's plenty of time for things to go wrong!! The trainer who admitted herself she doesn't really like labradors soon fell in love with him though Smile

Digs says he'd happily oblige if only Tucker was a bit closer!! He can demonstrate his 5 bar gate jumping technique if so desired :S ha

Make no mistake, agility is very addictive lol! I started for fun and didn't want to compete, but I got into competing, wasn't interested in instructing, but got involved, did a course and now I teach as well as compete.I love it, love it love it! Smile Smile have fun!

Well done Digger, sounds brilliant. I've booked Millie and myself in for agility but we don't start until mid March. Definitely looking forward to it. My son has done ME a gym route to ensure I am able to cope Shocked

I bet Millie will love it Smile She looks very like Digs in your photos! Don't worry too much the week didn't involve too much running - I was a bit worried about that too! I don't do running Razz I had enough problems deciding on footwear as I don't even own a pair of trainers Embarassed but as it was outside in a riding school I decided on wellies!

Another one bitten by the bug!

It sounds like it all went very well. I tend to wear wellies or walking boots as most trainers when combined with wet grass result in disaster.

I wear walking boots in the winter or wet - some people wear hockey, football or track shoes for grip! Summer I wear trainers.

My knees don't agree with running at all but can cope with the minute it takes to get around an agility course thank fully. A good thing about agility is that in theory you should be able to direct your dog around a course with minimal movement yourself - it's hard but I have seen quite a few disabled people able to compete through training their dog to work at a distance from them.

I reckon Millie will be fab as she's very good at looking to you for direction Gillian!!

I'm about to get wrapped up in thermals and fleeces etc for this morning! Brrrrr!!
