Hi Everyone at LF
Sorry to have been away from the forums for over a year now. One reason was Mac has been well of late after all his medical problems of which so many of you are aware and have posted about before and two, hubbie and I had a baby (human variety) in Feb 2011.
Mac has been well of late with no skin or elbow issues. He went for his walk this morning and was fine. Then we noticed he was refusing to lie down. This carried on for a few hours and he just paced the house, going from one room to the other, turning in circles and generally seemed a bit agitated. Anyway as our vet is local and knows us very very well due to Mac we gave him a call and he said to pop down at the end of morning surgery and he would give him the once over. Well he was a bit perplexed as Mac wasn't limping (joints are always our first concern with his history), his temp was 102.8 (so near normal although the vet said maybe up as it was a cold day), so the vet check his eyes, ears, gums etc and said all fine. He then did an internal and said his anal glands were full and that might be what was causing the problem with it being uncomfortable to lie down. He emptied them (Mac has never had anal gland probs before) gave him a shot of AB's and said to give him a dose of Metacam when we got home as we have plenty in stock after his elbows. We gave him the Metacam over 4 hours ago now. Mac is now whining, pacing, turning in circles and still refusing to lie down. He is happy to go for a walk, is eating as long as he can do it standing up (he refused a hide chew on his bed as he would normally chew these lying down......Mac being a lab has never refused a chew). He also didn't whine is pain when he had his ulnars broken as part of his elbow surgery so this is very unlike him. The vet is of course now closed for the weekend and we don't know what to do. Google comes up with anything from bloat to cardiac failure.
Any advice gratefully received but he is happy to go for a walk, no vomitting, no diarhaea just pacing, whining and refusing to lie flat. Also no limping or scratching/worrying at any part of his body.
I do always worry what we have done to his internal organs with all the drugs (Atopica mainly) that Mac has been on for the 4 years of his life.
Sorry for the long post and for being away from LF for so long.
The whining is getting worse as I type so really worried.
Thanks Juliet & Mac
P.S. He has actually been off his Atopica for 5 months now as his skin is a lot better.

Sorry to read your post butI would definitely be getting back in touch with the vet and ensuring I got an emergency visit. Trust your instincts!
Please keep us posted. Sending some healing vibes in the meantime ...

As his temperature is a little raised, he could be fighting something off, or in the process of coming down with something. I'm not sure how it being cold outside would make his temperature above normal . I'd have thought it would have done the opposite if anything.
Bloat sprung straight to mind when you said about the pacing and whining. Did the vet listen to his gut?
