Is it actually usual - and acceptable, not to mention ethical - in the UK when a breeder charges on top of her puppy price an extra 25 £ if a buyer wants a KC registered puppy? Rolling Eyes

Never ever happened to me though!

Are you sure they didn't mean £25 for a KC 5 generation printed pedigree certificate?

The cost of registration is only £13 per puppy so an additional £25 is a little OTT not to mention cheeky. However, I'd be more concerned about why the breeder appeared to be prepared to register some pups in the litter and not others.

How would you interpret a puppy sales ad ..."for a fee of 25 pound be kc registered" ? Rolling Eyes

Me too! Why would any good breeder feel it acceptable to charge twice the KC fee? I would run a mile! No good breeder I know gives any choice. All are registered.

But with the KC putting a limit of 4 litters per bitch I think the shadier breeders are going to make up the numbers with unregistered litters, or litters by phantom bitches. Evil or Very Mad

Regards, John

Unethical, But then again some do hold back the papers which may be the case here.

I would run and not look back as mentionaed above it only cost £13 to register each pup in the litter so to charge £25 for a KC reg puppy is ridiculous. Breeders (most) wouldnt even think of charging for the KC reg that is just part of buying one of their pups, can I ask how much they are asking for the pups without the KC Reg?

has anyone considered the breeder may be suggesting that they will register the puppy in the buyers name ie change of ownership.
Still not the normal practice.
To be honest I couldn't be doing with the hassle.

The ad says: "Price 450£ each. 100 pound secures pup, papers of parents can be seen and for a fee of 25 pound be kc registered"

The very same ad seems to be on several "dog sales" sites... Rolling Eyes
