As I got to the dog walking field there was one other person there in the far corner, so we set off clockwise to follow her direction. When we got to the narrow part of oblong Bo looked over to her dogs and I told him no, so he carried on the way we were going. Then China saw her dogs and started over towards them. She stopped about 25-30 feet from them – all the others were with me. The woman stood in front of her onlead dog with her arms and legs in an X – luckily China ignored that because it is one of the recall signs! Anyway – China was still standing there looking over and I was waiting for her to turn round and come back as normal (if I had moved towards her the others would have come with me) and just as she turned back to me the woman’s other dog raced over and attacked her!!! Now my dogs are no angels but I saw what happened, and China had been standing still then turned away to come back to me! It got her on the ground on her back and Bo hurtled over to help her (all he does is bounces but the other dogs don’t know that!) – but by the time he got there the woman had pulled her dog off China (who was on her back on the ground still) and checked HER DOG for damage!! Bo then stood next to China with the woman telling him “naughty dog, go away!” This was still in the place where China had been standing originally, not back on the path where the woman had been.
China should not have gone towards them BUT she stopped a decent distance away, did not go right up to them – and was turning to come back to me when it happened! (Bear in mind she is deaf so I could not call her vocally, and she is good at coming back when she sees me sign her – just have to wait for her to turn round, and most of the time she then comes back on her own). No doubt next time we see a flatcoat retriever China will want a word with it!
On the other side of things – normally they have a 454g block of mince mashed up with water and served up with a big mug of mixer BETWEEN them for breakfast. While we are staying here they have had tins for breakfast – brother served them today so I said it was a tin each for the big boys, half a tin for China and the other half tin between the 2 littles, and just add some mixer. I came out of the shower to find them still ploughing their way through the bowls – he had done the meat as above but then Jed and Bo had a mug of mixer each, China had half a mug and the littles had a ¼ mug each!!!

Poor China. My 2 are both the same in that they'll run so far, stop at a distance to gauge the messages being given off ie: is that my cocker friend about to bound on me or not? and then generally come back when called or if the signals being given off are boring and uninteresting.
Hope that China can meet lots of lovely dogs for a while to wipe out the experience x
