I've just read Cheryls'(LUTHER)post about purchasing Advocate.
Would you recommend that I administer this product to Kenko. He's already treated against fleas and ticks with Frontline, but I don't think it's a preventative against heartworm etc.
Your views would be very much appreciated !! Very Happy

I swap when they're due for wormers/flea treatments, so that hopefully, if any nasty passengers build up resistance to a particular product, they'll be covered with the next one. I switch between Advocate, Panacur and Drontal Plus.

Just thought,I already treat Kenko with Milbemax. He had a treatment at 6 months.I think I need to give him another at 12 months...but how often after that? Frontline plus, I treat him with every month.

Not sure if i'm correct here but i don't think advocate is a preventative treatment. It will not stop a dog from getting lung worm just kill any worms that it may have.

We worm our dogs about every 3-4 months and were using advocate every so often. However the vet has reassured us that as our dogs are young and fit and also we are not in a high risk lung worm area we should not use advocate as a regular treatment. The vet suggested that we only use advocate if our dog eats slugs out on walks or if they show any signs of coughing. Do you live in a high risk lung worm area is that why you are asking about advocate?

I need to find out if I'm in a high risk lung worm area, but as I said,I'm already treating Kenko with Milbemax every 6 months.I think Milbemax is a similar product to Advocate.Maddie who lives down south from me uses Milbemax,so I'll take her example.

Bethan that is interesting as my Vets use it as the flea and worm killer we are told to use it monthly but I use it every 6weeks and then once every 6 mths one for tape worm I think as it is not covered.

Vet told me that frontline is best flea/tick killer but advocate offers the lungworm protection. (which is luckily not here yet). Max is wormed with Drontal so far but may look to others now that people are highlighting different treatments.

OK this is what it covers protection and treatment of parasitic infections, protection and treatment of flea infestation, treatment of biting lice treatment of ear mite infestation, sarcoptic mange demodicosis prevention of Heartworm disease, and a couple more things but looking at the box is hurting my eyes lol but you get the drift Milibax I think is along the same lines.

yeah i'm same as irene, we use drontal for worms and frontline for fleas. We were told advocate has the lungworm aspect which drontal doesn't have. they were insistant on several occasions that we didn't need to use advocate on a regular basis. It is interesting Cheryl.
