Does anyone have any links to 'independent dog food reviews' sites?

With Mahsa such a small pup, I am keen to make sure she is on the best available to her (she's currently on Hills VetScience Puppy).

Have a read of a review for the food I think it is you're feeding your boy.

This link explains how chicken meal is made.

Hope that helps Smile

I believe the giardia not the food is the source of the runny poos..

I would keep a puppy on what the vet recommends, it was only for a month, then try shifting him gradually to a new food. Perhaps the Simpsons that Vikki recommends is worth a try.

But don't underestimate the unpleasant effect of giardia, it is really hard to shift. I had a hell of a time getting rid of it from my puppy and it took two courses of ABs then metronidazole before we had a clear stool sample. I requested the stool samples because I was sick of being told he was alright while he was passing pure liquid and blood and was getting emaciated. With the tests I could know when the parasitic level was really reduced and then start to make progress with food.

Really appreciate all the advice, wish I'd joined the forum ages ago! I think I am going to change him over to something like Simpsons/burns. I've read quite a lot about introducing adult foods at 6 months rather than waiting longer (some premium brands seem to recommend 15 months!). Should I feed him a puppy product or go onto an adult one as he's 6 months now?

I moved Bella over to adult food at 6 months and it doesn't appear to be doing any harm. Many very experienced and knowledgable people on here recommend it, which is why I went for their advice ... too many food brands are out to make money as much as anything Smile

I think even once the Giardia is cleared the dog is left with a delicate stomach.

I put mine on to adult at 8 weeks

Yes it does or should say can! After successful treatment for a bad bout of giardia it took around three months for my GSP's digestion to be fairly hardy again. Its not the stomach that is sensitive but the intestines as thats where the giardia literally hangs out and does the damage..hence why you need a diet thats very easily digested so that very little reaches the intestinal end of the digestive system!
