Me too.

I think unless you have exceptional control over your own dog already, then adding another adolescent dog into the mix is probably asking for trouble. You will probably have to walk and train them separately (do you have time for this) as if they Buddy Up at this stage, they could easily stick two fingers up at you and take no notice of you at all...after all they won't need you as much, once they have each other.

If someone had offered you a 9 month old dog from a different litter, would you have even thought about it? If not, then it'd be best to turn this dog down.

We rescued Amber at 11 months and changed her name from Sandy, not too different. Also Millie came to us at 7 months with no name. Both definitely know their names now Very Happy especially if involving food or walks. As for price we paid more than that for Millie, but it is a very personal decision as to your budget as well. It also sunds like there are othr factors to consider. I am sure whatever you decide will be the right decision for you.

Yep,im going to do the right thing and say thanks but no thanks.Trina,it does worry me when you say he's "about" to go through the teenage years, thought we already had! Shocked Shocked .I think we'll be best waiting til he's older then so we can concentrate all our attention on him at the moment xx

Very Happy I really do think you're making the right decision, I know its so tempting but those 9mths difference in waiting will make all the difference! I know people DO do it and I take my hat off to them! Well done for being strong!

Ps- re the teenage stage, you ain't seen nothing yet!!! Wink

I got Shadow in November and changed her name (to Shadow). From the beginning, the only time I used her old name was when I really needed to get her attention as she hadn't yet learnt her new name. It took her about 2 weeks and she now responds to Shadow (along with all the derivatives we have come up with Laughing ). She will be 7 in April this year, so never too old to learn something new Wink Very Happy

Changing the name won't matter, as someone said earlier, it's just a cue for their attention. Dogs don't have any grasp of the concept of "names", so you wouldn't cause any harm.
