Can someone just tell me a clear plan on what to feed my one year old black labrador. I used to feed him dry food, but people told me its better to switch to normal wet food. He is too skinny for his age, I just need a full plan on what to feed him, and how many times a day. He needs to get a big fat. Thank Smile

There is nothing wrong with the dried complete food if that is what he likes. Ignore the people who told you it's better to feed "Normal wet food," they dont know what they are talking about. Also his weight looks about right. He is not and never will be a chunky Labrador, he is a slimline working type dog. Don'y try to make him fat, you will be doing him no favours.

Regards, John

If you can feel easily but not usually see his ribs then he is fine. I get lots of comments about how young my labs must be because they are small and slim - they get accused of being 6month pups but inreality they are just small by breeding and kept light weight and fit so their joints aren't under any stress. They are both very happy being fed dry food.

Yeah, its just that he doesnt even like the dry food. He never finishes his food and he doesnt seem to enjoy it. His looks alot better eating wet food. But im not sure im giving him enough food or even the right things to feed. Any help ?

And do you feed him according to the amount recommended on the packet? I find this is too much for my 2 to eat - they would gain too much weight if I fed them the amount recommended.

He may not need to eat anymore so he doesn't.

How many times a day do you feed? Have you weighed the food to check you're giving a suitable amount? If you thought he looked better and enjoyed the wet food more why did you change?

My boy who is 2 and is underweight because of health problems for example eats his food ratio - which I weigh - in four small meals a day - others can easily manage with their food just split into 2 and some also get something like a bonio at lunchtime to tide them over or an extra little meal then to help them gain weight.

You DO NOT want your lab to be big and fat though that's no more healthy than being too thin in fact it can cause even more health problems. If John's seen your pup and think he looks fine then I'm sure he's fine John knows what he's talking about I'd trust his judgement anyday.
