Hello all,
I'm Jamie and this is Charlie our new 8 week old lab that we've had since Friday. He's started to settle in now and we've had one really quiet night (Friday) and one quite whiney night (last night).
I've been lurking around the forum for the last few weeks while researching how best to be prepared for the imminent change to my life that we now have with Charlie. He's our first dog so we have been careful to get as much information as possible.
We have already started to crate train him at night as he will be left in the house for 4 hours a day by himself. This started really well the first night but last night he was a little loud barking and crying after a few hours sleep. Other than the usual two trips out a night for toilet we're not giving him any attention at all for this and hope that it will subside soon. We've also bought a radio for him today to leave on low when we're out of the house.
I'm sure they'll be plenty of questions over the coming months but I'm really excited about starting his training and his first walk in two weeks when he's fully vaccinated. There's also a puppy training class and puppy playgroups only a 5 minute walk away from where I live so he will be enrolling there soon too!
Thanks for all the really useful documents and threads on here - they've really helped me in getting as prepared as possible for him.
Awww, he's fab. I'm a first time dog owner too so don't think that everyone is really experienced on here although loads are and I've had invaluable advice. Seb is slightly older than Charlie (he's nearly 13 weeks) so if you think you're about to ask a stupid question I've probably already done it

Welcome to you and Charlie.
welcome to days of frustration and sheer delight, chewed skirting boards and vanishing underwear, pawprints all over the house and all over your heart. strange pongs from "someone", and "presents" dropped at your feet, like half a mouse, sheep poo, and some strangers sock!
I envy you, enjoy every single second.
Heather, and Bridie.
