I've NEVER made a claim on pet insurance for Luna but because the vet records say front intermittent limping - Uncle G said that it'd be pre-existing to the insurers. I think it's scandalous!

Horse insurance is MUCH worse than dog, you dont get lifetime cover so exclusions every year if you claim BUT if a vet reports that its been ok for 9 to 12 mths they will reinstate it. its well worth asking straight out what is classed as pre existing as im sure it depends whether the problem is caused by an accident, therefore a oneoff, or an actual recurrent type of ailment.
Good luck

This is a gripe of mine about insurers and their definition of "pre-existing" conditions.
Some of them seem to use the term so loosely as to mean absolutely anything the dog has ever had before.
If a dog had some infection/problem years ago, which was successfully treated and cleared up completely with no lasting effects then I fail to see how it can be termed "pre-existing", as if it has always been there.
When Charlie was two he had a blocked intestine due to eating gunk in a field. It was successfully treated, the resulting infection was fully treated with a course of ABs and he made a complete recovery with no lasting damage. A one-off random event, not a pre-existing condition if you ask me, and no more likely to occur again now than it was before.
The whole thing just smacks of insurers trying to get out of paying for as much as possible.

Hi all,
Sorry to jump on this thread, our lab Jack has addisons disease and his insurance has just ran out so we are now funding everything ourselves.
Before we got him i did allsorts of research as to what dog to get and bought all the books ect, but never researched insurance! BIG mistake, i did'nt even know u could get a lifetime policy, and to top it all he has had really nasty ear infections so thats not covered either.
When he was diagnosed the vet casually said 'I hope you've got a lifetime policy'
My plee is to anyone buying a pet please get a lifetime policy and read the small print as we are upto £110 a month now in fees.
Told my daughter she has to get a part time job!!!! She's only 11
