Dudley's renewal has come through and it has gone up again - to £599
I made one claim in his first year and when the following renewal came, it had hardly changed at all. However last year it went up to £515 (from £350) despite no claims. I queried it and they said it was because vet bills had risen so much.
So I am thinking of changing it but wondered if certain things wouldn't be covered.
Last winter, he slipped on the ice while playing with a boxer and his hock swelled up. After a course of metacam and rest, it was fine again and hasn't caused any problems since. If, in the future, he ever had a problem with his hock/back leg, would they count his accident as a pre-existing condition because it's on his vet records even though we didn't claim?
Also he went to the vets when he had a tummy bug - again no claim, but if in the future he had a major tummy problem, because the tummy bug is on his records, could they say he had a pre-existing tummy problem?
I just think insurance companies often try and get out of paying so I need to be sure he's fully covered before we change
I think you would be better off calling and speaking to an advisor at different companies as each one probably has it's own rules.
With Bella, because she had campylbacter and giardia my company has excluded gut type issues, but have said that if/when she is clear of anything for a year, they will cover her again.

They are cheeky so and so's aren't they? My foster girl Molly has been on thyroxine for several years, and the insurers have recently stopped paying for it. Just why was insurance taken out for her??? WHY DO WE TAKE OUT INSURANCE? They accepted the risks, and then refuse to pay. If I didn't keep to my part of the contract, would they be happy? You bet they wouldn't.
Have u taken that further with them Shirley? If this is a recent thing try contacting which.... I'm sure they were looking at pet insurance recently in something I've read.

These companies are going to price themselves out of the market, its not helped by some vets I`m afraid, like car repairers they "add" to the bill because the insurance is paying it.
I`d definitely get in touch with them Wendy, I bet your car insurance is less per annum than it is to insure Dudley!.
I rang them up and they said the first year with all companies is always cheaper, basically to get your custom and then put it up after they have 'got you'.
We have the premium policy for Duds so I'm going to have a look at what the standard policy covers and how much that will be.
I'm just quite nervous to change policies just in casethey refuse to pay out if we need to claim for anything big

My car insurance is about £350 a year.
Charlie's insurance renewal is due in March and I'm expecting that to be even more, but to be fair, we have claimed so much for him that I don't begrudge paying it
Have you spoken to your vet they should be able to tell you if there is anything which they think would be excluded if you swopped insurance. I spoke to ours before swopping and also the lady who dealt with insurance claims to see if there was any insurance companes to avoid.
