Just before Xmas I switched Rosie and Frank onto Skinners Field & Trial Duck & Rice after reading recommendations on here and they did just fine on it. So we ordered a 2nd bag.

The local Pet Shop has changed hands and Hubby picked up the dog food on Xmas Eve. I went to feed the dogs that night and found something rather unexpected in the dog food bin. Unfortunately they have either ordered the wrong food; or Hubby has picked up the wrong bag - we have Muesli Mix.

Being out of food we had little choice but to feed it over Xmas, intending to get the proper food when the shop was open again - turned out they had to re-rder it and the delivery comes in tomorrow. We had a couple of days with Rosie being windy and Frank was a little loose but I'm fairly sure this was because they were "over-indulged" somewhat with leftovers rather than the food; because now all three dogs (including our unbelievably fussy foster who wouldnt even eat dog food in November) are eating it and doing really really well!!!

Both Frank and Rosie seem to absolutely LOVE the stuff; and I have to say we are getting NO wind from Frank at all which is a first, plus we are getting fabulously firm poos - Franks poo's are the best they've ever been.

I've had a look at the Skinners website and it seems to have alot of cereal in it; so I'm in a bit of a quandry now. On one hand not only is this stuff is cheaper and they really do seem to enjoy it more, but Frank is less windy and poo's from both dogs are really very good indeed. On the other hand, the Duck and Rice was completely hypoallergenic and cereal free!!

The difference in price is a bonus rather than a necessity; but after feeding the dogs Burns at £48 a bag I feel terribly guilty about the fact that this food is sooo cheap in comparisom; regardless of whether they like it or not! I just want to make sure they're on a good diet.

Does anybody else feed this or have experience of it? I'm torn between sticking with it or going back to the Duck and Rice!

I've fed it to super fussy can't tolerate anything Sam and he LOVED it! So much so he will run across a park for it especially those big square bits Laughing If they like it and do well on it why change? I know there is lots of talk about what's best and I for one tended to think more money spent = better food/doing the best for him but honestly I've not found that to be the case at all so now I'm just on the if it suits them then so be it. Added bonus it looks more interesting than a bowl full of brown balls Wink

If the dogs are doing well on it and are having the best poo ever then I would stay with it and not feel guilty about feeding a cheaper food!!

Think I remember reading about Franks sensitive tummy way back when you first had him and if the muesli works for him then great!!!!

I have to admit I have looked at it before for mine and worried about the cereals but after reading your experience then maybe I will be brave enough to give it a try!!

You raise really good points guys but here's my logic...

I love indian food. Love it love it love it. I would eat indian food every day if I could, and it doesnt upset my tummy.

But should I eat indian food every day? Very Happy

Yes they do. Perhaps I should've been more specific Very Happy Very Happy

There's Indian food; and there's Indian food. Proper Indian food is rarely with meat, alot of vegetables and pulses and a helluva lot healthier to the indian food that I'm referring to. Very Happy Very Happy

What you get in a takeaway is so far beyond the realms of "indian food" as it should be Laughing Laughing Laughing

I would be guided by the dogs, if it suits them and they look healthy I would stick with it, not all dogs can tolerate the richness of more expensive foods.
