My BF has just been stroking Inca on her belly and has found a lump. Its in the region of her belly button and i would say it is just a little bigger than the size of a pea. From what i can feel it seems quite hard and the skin on top of it is a bit red as though its been irritated.

Inca was spayed in June and a couple of months later i noticed a lump to the side of her spay scar and got it checked. The vet said that the lump was just were the stiches had been tied off and that it would take a while for it to dissolve. This lump though is above where i felt the previous one and im assuming with it being 6 months since she was spayed, that anything relating to her spay should have settled down by now. You can see it as plain as daylight, you dont have to feel about to find it.

Im trying not to worry to much at this stage because i know it could just be a fatty lump or something and nothing but obviously its playing on my mind in case its something nasty.

The problem is that the vets are closed today and will be closed tomorrow too so the earliest i could take her to the vets would be Tuesday. Would this be ok or would i be better taking her to the emergency vets? Im thinking that nothing would be done until at least Tuesday anyway with it being the holidays but i dont want to leave it if it needs seeing to straight away. Inca has been her normal self behaviour wise and theres been no changes in her eating/drinking or toileting. Everythings as normal except for this lump. Confused

From what you have described I do not think that waiting until Tuesday would cause any problems. I think it unlikely that it would warrant an emergency visit. Amber actually still has a lump on her belly button and she is 11 now. Amber has had cancerous tumours removed but I know this little lumpy one is harmless.
Its bound to be a worry, but if everything else seems fine then I would get in touch with the vet on Tuesday. Easy for me to say but try not to worry too much and let us know what the vet says. This is only what I would do and you know Inca but it does sound harmless Smile

Did the spay incision go up as far as the lump? I'm just wondering if they missed removing a stitch and this lump is her body trying to get rid of it. I had that happen to my horse. About a year after an op he developed a small red lump which burst a few days later and a piece of blue stitch was in the pus.

If not, then I'd get it checked out on Tues. I can't see any vet would do anything over the bank holiday unless it was an emergency anyway.

I hope it turns out to be nothing to worry about. Not that I'm a vet or have seen your dog, but I wouldn't rush for an emergency appointment from what you've said.

Yes Jules the lump is right at the top of her spay scar. When she had the lump after her spay that i got checked out i also noticed she had like a pimple and i could feel what felt like a stich trying to poke out of it. I asked the vet to check this too and she said that it was a stich that would dissolve. Im wondering if that is whats causing the lump? The pimple was on the right side of where this lump is now but maybe it could have moved about?

Im going to phone the vet tomorrow morning because they sometimes do an hours slot in the mornings on Sundays so they might do it tomorrow. If not i'll just wait until Tuesday as she seems fine in herself.

Managed to get Inca in to the vets today. The vet had a good feel round the lump and the rest of her stomach, she said the muscle feels absolutely fine and that it feels to her like a reaction to the suture of her spay. She said that it can take up to a year for them to completely dissolve and sometimes they can have a reaction towards them some time after the spay when their body suddenly realises there is something foreign in it.

She took Inca's temperature and said it was very slightly higher than normal but she said that could have just been because Inca was being quite lively and wanting lots of fuss. Inca has been given antibiotics in case there's some infection and also some anti inflammatory's and she has to go back in a week for another check up, or sooner if her eating/drinking etc changes or we are concerned about anything.

I'm so relieved that i know what it is for certain now and can get the thought out of my head that it could have been something nasty.
