My 1 yr old choccie girl Bella is leaking a milky discharge from her privates. There are puddles on the floor when she sits down and she is licking her behind alot. Whilst walking her this afternoon i noticed her back end was a little sticky.
She is not spayed and she has only had one season since we rehomed her in August.
She seems fine but does cry every now and again and has become wary of us putting her normal walking harness on. Which is not like her at all. Apart from this she seems fine.
Do you think this sounds like an emergency or should i wait and call vet on monday?
thanks

How long has it been since her season? If it's quite recent it could perhaps just be the end of that. My main concern would be pyometra which does need to be checked by a vet, it can be cleared up with a course of ABs.

She finished her last season about 6 weeks ago. We are not sure how many she has had before this as she has only been with us since august. We are planning to have her spayed soon and have discussed this with vet.

Yes, pyometra was coming up when i googled discharge which has worried me.

I'd also be concerned about a pyro, especially in the time frame you're talking about. Are you able to take her temperature?

If you are at all worried about pyometra. please see your vet. If the discharge builds up in the womb, the neck of the womb can close stopping this can become very serious. I don't want to scare you but keep a close watch on her, if she is crying it would indicate that she is in some pain/discomfort.

Ive only had one experience of pyo and that was with my first dog Rosie. She started drinking a lot of water and also 'prayed' a lot, a bit like a playbow with front legs in the down and bottom up but no waggy tail. TBH if she was my dog, had a season that finished 6 weeks ago, there were white puddles of discharge, she was crying, was wary of my putting a normal walking harness on her, Id be taking her in for a check, new years eve or not. If it is a pyo then waiting until Monday could leave her in serious trouble. If its not a pyo then you will be able to at least get some answers. Was there anyway she could have been mated during her season?

I hope she is not in too much discomfort. I can only tell you what I would do and that would be to get in touch with vet. It is definitely going to cost, especially if you are not insured, however I would rather be safe than sorry, especially if it is pyo and a delay in any antibiotics may delay a recovery.
Please keep us updated, these dogs do cause some worries Sad

No i don't have anything to take her temperature with and can't get one this time of night. Is there any other way of checking, she is cuddled up in her bed so she is very warm anyway.

She is eating and drinking normally, poo's have been ok.

But it was dripping out of her earlier on.

No she hasn't been mated, she did have one supervised walk with an intact male dog after her season finished but nothing happened as i watched all the time. If they did it would have been so quick. Would this cause discharge? I was thinking maybe it could be a phantom preg?

We are fully insured.
