I am pretty sure Bella has swallowed my son's sock. Well, she stole it from the washing basket and took it under the sofa and now there is no sign of it!!

Is it likely to come up and if so, how long does it take ?
If it is has caused a blockage, how soon would I know ?

Hope someone can help ?

Chloe

P.S She is an 18 week old working cocker spaniel so obviously not as big as a lab pup

Firstly don't panic. This happened to me Christmas Eve 3 years ago. My vet advised me to give Lottie a big bowl of weetabix. Check that she was toiletting properly and not vomiting. Keep an eye on her tummy and make sure it's not going hard and that she's not uncomfortable.

Lottie's sock was a big thick man's sock and she was 6 months old (sorry I don't know the age of your pup so it might be different. She was acting totally normally whilst I followed her round checking her poo!!

On Boxing Day morning about 6am,Lottie brought up the sock, totally whole and I could have worn it again after a wash.

That is how I found Lab Forums!

If in doubt, call your vet and take some advice over the phone. It happens a lot.I hope all is ok and it reappears very soon.

Barbara xx

Sorry just re read and saw she is 18 weeks and a smaller breed. I'd check with the vet.

I can't advise on what to do or what will happen, but once I saw Nala gagging and then a PAIR of socks came up - balled together!

She was only very young then and no harm was done.

Inca has done this quite a few times now and is well known at the vets for her sock swallowing antics. Embarassed She has probably swallowed around 8 socks altogether, the latest time being just a couple of weeks ago when she got in my BF's gym bag and ate two socks at once!

She has always managed to get them back out through one end or the other, on a couple of occasions the vet has given me some liquid paraffin to help things along.

Even though shes done it a few times and we try to keep socks out of her reach, i still panic if she manages to get one. I keep an eye on her for having difficulty toileting, so if shes trying to poo but cant i would have her straight to the vets. Also if she tried to be sick be couldnt or if she showed discomfort or pain in the stomach area. Theres always the stretch that they do as well that looks like a bow, which can indicate that they are in pain/discomfort.

I'd just keep a close eye on her for now, no doubt she will manage to get rid of it herself, but any sign of pain/discomfort/not being able to toilet etc and i'd go straight to the vet.

Fingers crossed she brings it back up, Digger ate the treat bag on Thurs/Fri eve and brought it up again overnight. I know he's a lot bigger but thought it might give you an idea of a time scale... although I do also believe it can vary considerably!

My Bella swallowed a silicone cup case about 3 weeks ago and I'm still waiting for it tore appear. I did take her to the vet and their advice was to watch and wait. If there are any changes in her poo (i.e. prolonged diarrhea), if she starts straining and nothing comes out, if she shows any pain or discomfort, goes off food, starts wretching with nothing coming up, etc. I have been advised to watch for all of these things and if she shows any signs to take her back.

I am still waiting for the cup cake case to appear and still no signs of problems with Bella Rolling Eyes

I've now stopped worrying on a daily basis, but will have her straight to the vet if I notice anything wrong.

Hopefully the missing sock with reappear soon for you Smile

Took Bella to vets this morning as not been to toilet this am.
Vet concerned by size of sock in her little body Sad so had to leave her there for X-ray and endoscope down to look and hopefully remove item.

Feel so bad that I didn't take it from her and then she wouldn't be having to go through this at 18 weeks old.
