Hi and welcome to LF, it sounds as though he`s probably been left outside a lot up to now, most likely with no interaction, Labs as you probably know love to be with humans.
A lot of time and patience and Zak will learn that being outside is a pleasurable experience and he`s not going to be left by himself for any length of time.
As someone said, leave the door open so he can come in if he wants to, once he knows he won`t be left alone he should be fine I think
