your dog ate one of those silicone cup cake things ?

Bella swallowed one whole on Thursday morning (she somehow confused the word drop with swallow Rolling Eyes ). I phoned the vet and they suggested monitoring her and she has been and still is absolutely fine. No vomiting or diarrhea, no sign of pain or discomfort, eating as normal.

I have not seen any sign of it at all in the exit department. It was lime green in colour, so I doubt I would have missed it Rolling Eyes

So I was just wondering if I should just leave it, or if I should consider taking her to the vet (what for though, I have no idea).

What would you do and how long would you expect it to take to work it's way through?

If she is eating and pooping and acting completely normally then I'm afraid to tell you that a trainer sock Tucker ate a couple of days after coming home re-emerged almost 10days after it was swallowed. I was watching for it but assumed after a week that somehow I had missed it emerging - I hadn't! He did require a little 'help' with a poo bag on my hand!

The last thing he swallowed was a rubber paw boot-like a thick balloon. That took only 2/3 days to come through I think.

If she vomits, acts poorly, stops pooping or gives concern then whisk her to the vets asap. Otherwise I would watch and wait...

Hope it passes through ok x

Thanks Laura - I won't panic or worry yet then, and I'll make sure I keep an eye on her (with poo bags at the ready!) in case she needs "assistance" Rolling Eyes Laughing

Did she rip it up or eat it whole?, if its one of those giant ones I`d be keeping a close eye.

You oviously don`t feed her enough if she has to eat silicone cake cases Wink Laughing

After our experience with Molly and blockages, I'd be keeping a very close eye indeed. And if it hasn't reappeared in a week, I'd recommend ringing your vet!

At least you won't miss it if it does reappear!

With all of Hope's catastrophes I am very wary. However, she did eat a sock in August and it took 8 days for it to pass through to the other end. In that time she was perfectly well, no symptoms at all. With the other problems such as the tights, she became ill within a matter of 24 hours. Her symptoms initally: vomiting, brown water type stuff smelt of drains and then 2 hours later blood stained diahhorea. You will know immediately as they become very lethargic and Hope had constant drools of long stringy saliva too. I agree that if after 7 days you have no joy, then a trip to the vet may be a good idea.

Fingers crossed for a reimergence at either end soon
Keep us posted.
Maria

Today is the 10th day since Bella at the cupcake and still no sign of it. She has had the runs today and I'm not sure if this has been caused by the bone she had yesterday or the cupcake thing. Normally, the bone will stiffen her up not give her the runs.

If it hasn't appeared by Monday, I am thinking of taking her to the vets, but, my question is, is there anything they can do?

I'm assuming it wouldn't appear on the x-ray and I can't see them operating on an apparently healthy dog.

What I don't want to happen is for her to get suddenly very ill over the holiday season, so am hoping this can be "sorted", one way or another, before then.

give her a teaspoon of sweetcorn (not corn on the cob) - they cannot digest it so it is easy to see if it passes through, and if you do go to the vet on Monday at least you can say if there is an in and out movement!
