Nothing harsh about the metal crates Alex, its how they are used by some that may be harsh.
Would agree there. The dogs don't sleep on the metal bits, you make it all nice and snuggly for them with bedding
Mins did NOT like the crate one bit, but it wasn't the material. My Collie loves his crate (which is exactly the same, both metal) and will often take himself off to sleep in it. In fact he just did, as I was typing that
He's not a young dog and is never destructive. I gave him his crate as a safe den. It's covered in a towel and has lots of nice bedding in it.
I've not much more to add really but would like to give you some advice with your children and puppy!
We have a 12 week old pup and 2 boys who are 4 & 2 - they adore the dog and she adores them, but they do get over silly with each other - so thats something to watch - also we were finding that when they were playing, especially with a ragger rope toy that Poppy would get over excited and catch their fingers so our trainer told us to get some rope, about 4/5 foot in length and tie it to the toy so they can still play with her but her teeth are further away from their fingers - its certainly helped and they all play beautifully together
The Metal crates have a lot more room what I did was put vet bed up the sides a bit then a blanket over the top Max loves his crate he is never locked in it now but he has just gone in it even though he has a dog bed a settee and a very large puffy to lie on he lies on the vet bed in the crate lol I also got a fabric one and to be honest never used it above twice.
It is very exciting time though enjoy every minute they grow way to quickly.
