Hi,
My 6 months old puppy is very sick. He had suddenly stopped eating since 8 days. He eats nothing and vomits/poops after every 10-15 minutes. Doctors have tried everything, but no use. He just sits somewhere and stare at the people. I suspect he had eaten something from outside. he refuses to have injections or salines. He has turned from a healthy pet to a weak, skinny pet due to lack of food. What can be the cause and what can be done to make his condition better?

Please provide any useful piece of information. There has to be something that can make his condition better.
Thanks a lot in advance.

I am so sorry your Patchy is poorly, you say your vet has tried everything and nothing has worked, my advise would be to speak to another vet in the practice or change vets completely, that is to long for pup to not eat or drink, and will require the saline under sedation if necessary.
When were you last at the vets, has he deteriated since they saw him.
If it was just a tummy upset then 24 hours without food and gradually feeding small meals should sort it out, but in Patchy's case he does need help from the vet and soon.

June

Whereabouts are you? When you say he's refusing injections, what do you mean? I don't think mine are thrilled if they have to have one, but if it's in their best interest, then that's what happens. I really think you need to go back to your vet or speak to another if you're not happy with your current vet, as it sounds as though you feel this is rather serious Sad

Really hope some help can be found for him and that he's feeling much better soon flower

I think I would be calling a Vet immediately.A six month old pup should not be left in such a state for so long...you say he's been like this for 8 days.As June says,it certainly can't be a simple upset,as it would have passed by now.
I beg you to get on to a Vets straight away,as at that age he could deteriorate dramatically in a few hours. Please don't put your pups life in danger by leaving it any longer...good luck!

My parents had called almost 3 different vets. But nothing is moving. He has not eaten ANYTHING since 8 days Sad He sometimes walks here and there and dats it. He sleeps all the day. And he goes very aggressive if vets try to give him saline. The last option I am going for it is as u said, by using sedation . It's very important to feed him something. But I don't know how Sad

Is your pup staying at the vets? Sounds like he should be if he's that bad.

I agree, if you're not happy with the vet, please see another one. Whereabouts are you? xx

I live in India(pune). Unfortunately, he is at my native which is not an urban area so there are not many facilities available. We have still consulted 3 different and experienced vets from the nearby place. If the situation remains same, I may have to move him to mumbai but pratically, that is very much difficult as it is 15 hours journey. So we are trying to get things done at home by calling vets. He is not even looking at his fav biscuits or anything for that matter. Forget eating, he is not even drinking water.
Please please suggest something. Sad

I don't think you have any alternative but to get him to a vet who can treat him now, no matter what. It sounds like you have a very poorly puppy who needs urgent medical intervention so am wishing you all the best.

Right I will be totally honest with you - I think you need to take your pup to the Vet immediately and ask them to do either an endoscopy or an ultrasound and maybe even xrays as well - they need to look and see if there is something stuck in a part of his digestive system - have they not suggested this - I would never leave a dog 8 days with those symptoms I am not sure you can just find something he likes in order to fix this.

When you say he vomits or poops every 10 minutes do you mean every day and every night for the last 8 days/nights? If so I would be very seriously concerned, did the Vet not offer an anti-sickness injection? When he's well is he ok with being handled is it merely that he's not keen on injections as he's feeling poorly and scared - to be honest like Angela if my dog needs and injection he's having it whether he likes it or not I do not get into a discussion with him about it - he's only 6 months can't someone hold him even if this requires a muzzle for everyone's safety including his own, it seems quite strange that a Vet would not do this they are usually used to dogs being scared and lively and usually have vet nurses to help with the holding if the owner can't.

Right so -

Is he drinking?
What are you feeding/trying to feed him, how and when?
When did he come home to you?
Has he been wormed?
When did you see the Vet how long into his symptoms how long since?
Have the symtoms remained the same or got any better or worse in the 8 days?
Did they give you any tablets to give him?
Have you given them in the correct dosage?
Have you given them at the right times?
Did they take a stool sample?
Did the Vet feel his tummy, look down his throat, check his mouth?
What did the Vet say to do if he did not get better?

I REALLY URGE you to get this pup to a Vet asap - if the others have not covered the points above can you take him to a PDSA or Blue Cross Vet or Vets4Pets if there is one of those near you, independent Vets are fine too if you have one locally that is recommended, where abouts are you one of the LF members can probably suggest someone excellent in your local area.

Please let us know how he is doing.

Have the vets xrayed him - could they? He could have a blockage in his intestine if he has eaten something wrong. This was cause him to be uncomfortable and possibly aggressive. An xray may not show a blockage but some objects don't show up on them. Will he let you feel his tummy area? Can you feel any swellings or lumps??
