Luna has taken Glycoflex3 since about Aug 2009. Her specialist about a month ago looked at the ingredients and suggested switching to Seraquin because it contains Chrondroitin which Glycoflex3 doesn't. Then he looked again at the ingredients of Glycoflex and said that Seraquin doesn't contain Green Mussel etc so she'd be ok to take both. Me not wanting to overdose Luna with Glucosamine decided to switch her to Seraquin and forget the Glycoflex.

Now Luna has been ok, her back end has lost some muscle so she's not as unrestricted as either of us like because I want her muscle to get back up to the state it was when I didn't realise she had severe HD. Anyway, she's been walking slower... I've been examining her back gait and general demeanor and something made me think I'll give her Glycoflex again as well as the Seraquin. She has DEFINITELY perked up and looks happier again!

SO now I think I'll stick with the Glycoflex and have a look for Chrondroitin supplement alone to make it up.

It's good that you've seen an improvement since changing back. Very Happy

I've been more than happy with the Glyco-flex 3. Mojo still bounces around like a youngster even though she has OA in her elbows and toes, so it seems to work well for her, even if it hasn't got Chondroitin in.Smile

Diesel was on Seraquin for about a year and i didn't notice any difference with him at all. Hes on glyco-flex 2 and i know its early days but i've not noticed a difference.
Even with daily treatment, previcox and being on supplements for about 15months hes still dipping his shoulder and has contracted muscles in that area.
It does make me think that if Mojo and Luna have shown signs of getting better on supplements why Diesel hasn't Confused

Lottie,as you know Laura, has been on Glycoflex 2 since she was 18 months old. My vet absolutely swears by it (but I buy online from Vet Uk!)

I can really tell if she doesn't have it for a while if I forget to order some. Several of my clients dogs are on it too and one is on the Glycoflex 3 (he is nearly 13 and still walks for an hour with us twice a week...bless him)

I may get Lottie some additional green lipped mussel though...that can't do any harm. I could do with some myself (and Glycoflex Laughing )

Ooops sorry its not clear on the mussel front is it! The green mussel is in the Glycoflex but not in the Seraquin (just glucosamine and Chrondroitin and turmeric) so I think there is something in the Glycoflex that is 'working' :

Glyco-Flex III contains Perna canaliculus, Glucosamine HCl, Dimethylglycine, Methylsulfonylmethane, Manganese, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Selenium, Grape Seed Extract, and Glutathione.

I have to say that I had dropped Luna down to Glycoflex 2 in the early summer because I felt she was doing ok healthwise, they ran out as she had surgery on elbow so I won't be dropping her down again!

And Kate soooo sorry that Diesel is no better Sad You really must be wondering where to turn next Sad Is it worth getting a 2nd specialist to have a look at him?

I've just bought some Yumove and according to the "ingredients" list, the chondroitin comes from the green lipped mussel.

I started giving Glucosamine and Chrondroitin to my previous lab',Benji,as he got older. When I told my Vet this,he said that there isn't any scientific evidence to prove that giving these supplements makes any difference to a dogs mobility Sad
I had 2 litres of the stuff at home at the time & was even taking it myself!!
Talk about feeling deflated,I felt sure I was doing Benji some good Sad ???

Hi Julian,I guess some vets believe in it and some don't...mine would definitely beg to differ with yours Smile I truly believe in it for dogs and people. My mum has always had very clicky knees and started to take Glucosamine...now no clicking at all after 6 months taken daily.

All I know is it does no harm so I don't mind paying for it at all.I too hope it did your Benji some good Smile
