Hi all, thought I'd introduce myself.
My name's Joe and I'm 18. I had a black Labrador called Bart who was sadly put to sleep at the age of 9 in June this year due to a brain tumor. Having grown up with him, I've been finding it difficult to get used to him not being here, even to this day.
Here's a few pics I have of him, including one with our younger Beagle when we first got him.
And the one with the Beagle who is called Henry.
R.I.P. Bart (January 15th, 2002 - June 8th, 2011)
I'm currently thinking about getting another lab, black again like Bart, Sandylands he was, but I keep thinking 'am I doing this to replace Bart?'. Is it natural to think this? Or am I being silly?
I'd like a pubby to be honest. Purely for the fact he would be mine, I pay for him, train him, walk him etc, Bart was the family pet and I'd like something to look after.
Of course I could look at pubby labs in rescue? It would have to be sandylands like Bart was and black.
Joe,what a stunner Bart was, really handsome boy.I know how it feels to lose a pet,it really hurts and for you its only been 6months so of course it still hurts.I promise though it will get better.Good luck with your hunt for a new pup/dog x
Hi Joe and welcome to LF, Bart was a lovely looking boy but I know I don`t need to tell you that do I?
You are not being silly thinking that getting another pup would be disrespectful to Bart or that you are replacing him, you won`t be doing that as the new pup will have a character of his/her own and most likely completely different to Bart other than being black.
Bart will always be in your heart as will any dog you have throughout youyr life including Henry
Hello
Bart was a lovely boy I know exactly how you are feeling It's is so difficult when you loose a loved pet,
When we lost Fern she was nearly 18 yrs old Lab collie cross and I said I would have another dog I could never love another dog after her
But I lasted 3 months and could not stand being without my best little friend ! So found a breeder and then found Bea best thing I ever did.
They never replace the old dog but fill the void by stamping a new paw print on your heart
Good luck with your decision
